Moose 3 Posted September 21, 2013 As the topic states, I would appreciate thoughts on installing the Vivid Housings Leak Sentinel V3 with 5mm adapter on my Ikelite 6871.03 (Canon 5D mk III) housing: http://www.vividhousings.com/leak-sentinel.php I have sent an e-mail to the manufacturer, but I'm guessing Miso doesn't work over the weekend, so I thought I'd ask here as well as I'm anxious to try it out in the tub before I leave on Monday. The recommendation I have seen is to replace the Depth-of-Field Preview control. However, the Ikelite 5D mk III housing does not have a control for DOF Preview: http://ikelite.com/web_two/can_5dmarkiii.html Which control should I sacrifice instead, considering that I have the 5 mm adapter? The Lens Release control is looking like a good candidate, would that be the best choice? (And more importantly, will it work?) Thanks in advance!
vividhousings 3 Posted September 21, 2013 I was obviously referring to the non existent control, sorry for that. Lens release control seems like a good candidate for replacement, though. In fact, any control gland can be replaced, but in some cases, in order for the valve body to clear the nearby obstacles, long adapter may be needed instead of the short one. Moose 3 Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) Top-notch customer service, thanks for the quick reply! After an hour I still have a very reassuring green light, I'm going to be breathing much easier diving with this. Edited September 21, 2013 by Moose
jocko 0 Posted November 5, 2013 Can you elaborate on your final decision, did you install in the lens release control? How much time and effort was the install? Thanks in advance, David
Moose 3 Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) Can you elaborate on your final decision, did you install in the lens release control? How much time and effort was the install? I did use the LRC, since I cannot imagine I would ever need to use it. It only took a few minutes to make the switch. Cerianthus 55 Posted November 28, 2013 I use the lens release to swap lenses between dives. It is also needed to install/ remove zoom lenses with larger diameter, because you install the zoom bits and the lens from the outside. I couldn't go without. jocko 0 Posted January 7, 2014 I bit the bullet and purchased the Leak Sentinel V3 and installed it in the Lens Release Control position. I could still use the lens release button using a wooden spatula, it is a little tricky but works fine. Customer support from Miso was excellent. The LED was initially in the wrong position facing forward rather than toward the rear of the housing but removing the 3 screws and rotating the small circuit board fixed that issue. Just got back from the Galapagos and was very pleased with the ease of use the the system. Always felt reassured seeing the green LED flashing at me.
Cerianthus 55 Posted January 8, 2014 Interesting that you can still use the release, that would help the decision to go for one of these. What lenses are you using, do you use a zoom control you have to bypass with the wooden spatula?
Cerianthus 55 Posted January 8, 2014 Ps, http://www.ikelite.com/downloads/instructions/Quick_Start_pdf/Zoom_Clamp_and_Sleeve.pdf This link tells all about installing zoom gears. I presume you don't use lenses that require you to install the lens once the camera is installed.
Cerianthus 55 Posted January 16, 2014 just to go back on this topic. I tried with the fattest of my lenses including a zoom gear and your spatula tric works (i used a teaspoon).. So the lens release is missable.. i might be in the marked for a vivid leak sentinel !
Cerianthus 55 Posted February 20, 2014 Just wanted to mention that after some initial scepticism I bought a unit and installed it in similar fashion.
