nortoda1 13 Posted October 4, 2013 Nikon are to announce the D610 on Tuesday. I've used a D300 for the last 3 years and really like it. But I need something with much better low light performance as I now do much of my diving in to wrecks in 60-80m range in Irish waters. Was considering the D600, it seems to be fantastic at low light and is very reasonably priced, the only thing that puts me off is the really AF system. I've considered the D800, but it is considerably more expense, and I definitely dont need 36MP. Rumours so far is that there will only be a slight increase in fps, from 5.5 to 6. raarsen 8 Posted October 4, 2013 I use the D600 in a Nauticam housing and I like it a lot. Amazing resolution, it brings out the tiniest details when you shoot macro. Very crisp images. Great viewfinder, I agree on the AF system although you can learn to live with it. Great performance in low light. I do have the debris issue though, with dust and stuff falling on the sensor. Learned to clean the sensor myself which is not very hard to do. The image below was taken yesterday with the D600 and a Nikon 60mm macro + 1,4 TC + 36mm extension tube. As a D800 owner, I will recommend you a D610 or unless D810 is out there. 36MP is very useful for nature photography and the AF on D800 is awesome. Adam I've cleaned my sensors myself from the outset, but I've had much more trouble with the D800 than with any of my earlier Nikons. I use a D300s underwater (I used to have a D300 which is pretty much identical in this respect) and a D600 on land. The D300s has much better AF than the D600 does so I suspect it will perform better at depth (for AF). I've had a little dusting on my D600's sensor but nothing to really worry about. Was thinking the D600 would offer the ability to push the iso to 3200 or even 6400 with little sacrafice in quality. spencerjb22 4 Posted October 12, 2013 I used to have the D600 - but the dust issue was just too bad. I do a lot of land stuff with small apertures and it was a real pain.I'd often literally have oil/dust all over the place. I cleaned the sensor myself but after even a few hundred clicks it was back. I now have the D800 and can honestly say that yes, you do get bits of dust, but in comparison with the D600 it's no where near. It's not an issue at all to me anymore, but the D600 was a pain in the arse. Shame as it is such a nice camera. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I am thinking about taking the plunge into UW FX format and seems like D610 is the way to go for me. I just want to know, if the housings are going to be available for in the near future. Mark K 5 Posted October 18, 2013 The problem of D600 dust on sensor comes from shutter and ...D800 is not immune from that. Luckily I use D800 for portrait more but the unavoidable stopping down for macro shooting underwater will definite bring more visible dust to your images. nortoda1 13 Posted October 20, 2013 went with the D800 in the end, much better AF and its been on the market long enough to iron out bugs.
