Schouw 0 Posted March 31, 2014 Hi. My big nightmare is to suddenly loose all of my precious photos. Pretty sure I'm not alone on that one. At the moment I have all my pictures on external drives. I keep one drive at home and one at work, and I sync them now and then. I really don´t like this manual syncing. What I would really like, was to have disks in two different locations, that automatically synced over the internet. I import, organize and edit images with Lightroom. When I edit a picture, I would like this edit to be applied to the image on both drives. I would like to hear your thoughts and ideas around this.
MikeVeitch 0 Posted March 31, 2014 You should be able to do that with Chronosync and two drives that are able to attach via wifi such as a Synology. I do that myself but one of my drives is attached via USB but that shouldn't matter, you just need to be sure both drives are powered on and attached to a server, then synch them
thetrickster 328 Posted March 31, 2014 I use (if you're mac based) Backblaze.
jmauricio 24 Posted March 31, 2014 I just got two of these (http://www.filetransporter.com/products/transporter-sync/) One at home, one off site. Just set up the offsite this weekend. Seems to work ok so far (early days) was very easy to set up. once you load data on one, its automatically synced to the other. limitations are twofold so far. *HDD size limitations. 3TB. limited support currently for 4TB and no raid. This means your offsite is not raided for redundancy. *It could be my connection but the transfer to the local drive can be a little slow. positives *easy to set up *remote access to files via smartphone/tablet Don't claim to have a great solution really, but think i'm getting there. bvanant 195 Posted March 31, 2014 Backblaze works ok, a bit slow to get started (a month more or less) and if they keep the price it is quite nice. Bill
Schouw 0 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) Chronosync and Synology looks interesting. Not sure how well Lightroom copes with this kind of storage. If I'm not mistaken, it has some issues with network drives. I don't want to use services like Backblaze. I prefer my files to be on drives i own and control, and not depend on the well being of a cloud company. Edited April 1, 2014 by Schouw
bvanant 195 Posted April 8, 2014 If you have a reasonable internet connection you can use Transporter as well with Chronology, or if you need really lots of storage any NAS or Drobo type box. Bill
