Alex_Mustard 0 Posted April 26, 2004 I am sure this question has been asked before, but I could not find anything in Search & Found... Is there a trick that will let me trigger an external slave (non-DX strobe) with the internal flash on an Olympus digicam? The external slave (YS30) fires OK, but this does not seem to coincide with the actual exposure. I assume it is being triggered by the pre-flash. marpacifica 0 Posted April 27, 2004 Alex, I think you may have searched/posted in the wrong forum if you're looking for help on the Olympus digital cameras, which may explain the lack of hits on your search! Anyway, I have the Olympus 3000 and 4000 digital zooms, and both these fire a pre-flash. Yes, I think your strobe is synchronizing with the pre-flash. The Oly 5050 (and I believe the 5060) has a setting that allows you to cancel the pre-flash.

Giles 1 Posted April 27, 2004 Alex ... there is a slave sensor you can get .. I know Ikelite made one .. and there others that ignore the pre flash. You either have to get one of these sensors or a DX strobe, or get a camera that can control its pre flash .. although that camera may have a flash setting that doesnt pre flash. I dont know. MikeO 5 Posted April 27, 2004 Unfortunately, I don't know of a special adapter that will work with the YS30. The only thing I've seen that would come close was a setup a person rigged with a very thin fiber optic cable so that his Substrobe AQ/s wouldn't sense the preflash, but would get enough signal from the main flash to fire. Ike's snesors will only work with Ike DS series strobes. If you have some other strobes lying around, you might be able to make use of this little gem: http://www.muenster.de/~matthias/blitz/indexe.htm Mike
