edmond320 26 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi dear all, Please kindly advice me regarding these question: 1.Which 4K file format you prefer to film 4K? MP4(LPCM) or MOV ? What is the big diferent between? 2. Regarding Ninja 2 connected with GH4, Ninja 2 only support GH4 with setting as AVCHD(FHD/17M50i), to allow video signal to appear on Ninja 2 monitor. Otherthan that ,the Ninja 2 monitor just appear black, withGH4 video file format setting as MP4,MP4(LPCM),MOV, is that right? 3. I can only use Ninja 2 as a field recorder to record ProResHQ video, with GH4 video setting as AVCHD(FHD/17M50i), but with HDMI Rec Ouput , should I choose 4:2:2 8 bit, or 4:2:2 10 bit, I understand that when HDMI Rec Output set at 4:2;2 10 bit, I cannot film 4K internally at GH4. But as long as when I shoot 4K, I need to go back to menu to reset the video file format from AVCHD (which is for Ninja to function) to MOV or MP4(LPCM), then why not choose a higher bit rate output format. Any advices are really appreciated !! Cheers Edmond
edmond320 26 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) Should I discard Ninja 2 and just focus on GH4 4K internal video recording ??? Please help me to figure it out. Thank you ! Edited April 30, 2014 by edmond320
thetrickster 328 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi Edmond. That is odd. 1: For sure I would go with MOV not MP4. 2. The Ninja2 only supports up to i60. Not p60. Perhaps everything other than AVCHD sends out a p60 signal? 3. Correct if setting to 10bit. Then you cannot record internally to the card. What options are there on the HDMI output? (Are they the same as the GH3?) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
thetrickster 328 Posted April 30, 2014 Just checked the manual. Can you try using MOV at 4k p25 ?
edmond320 26 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi Richard, I have packed the camera as I am going tomorrow. Will try it again at the resort. Cheers Edmond
thetrickster 328 Posted April 30, 2014 Keep us updated Edmond. For sure it will be a simple setting that needs changing - enjoy the trip!
edmond320 26 Posted May 20, 2014 After grading my GH4 footage with DaVinci Resolve Lite, I have edited a short film with 1920 x 1080 resolution and posted at youtube. My experience with GH-4 is enjoy it very much. I use two lens during my trip, 7-14 for wide, 60mm for macro. In fact, I don't need much for post correcting the 4K video. But if I want to do some correcting with the MOV file, I find it is not as extensive than what I did with BMPCC ProRes file. I am sure I will buy the Shogun later in order to record 4K ProRes at lease. Not sure if Shogun can record 4K DNG file ?? Cheers Edmond
Pete L 48 Posted May 20, 2014 Nice one Edmond, I should have mine setup this weekend! I also have the 7-14 & the 12-50 but will also add the 60mm at some point.
thetrickster 328 Posted May 20, 2014 Took my GH4 with the 60mm out this past Sunday. No video. Just stills. Well happy with it. This coming weekend I'll have the 7-14mm in the water with the 170mm dome and Keldans :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pete L 48 Posted May 20, 2014 Trickster, I'm interested in seeing your results with the 7-14 & 170mm dome. I will have my 7-14 soon & 6inch dome but am also considering the 170mm.

ScubaBob 37 Posted May 21, 2014 Great stuff from both Edmond and thetrickster. I have the GH4 in hand, but I'm waiting on my housing. Heading out to the Oil Rigs this weekend, so will probably using my GH2 again unless my shop gets a delivery in the next couple of days. Edmond, what picture profile are you using? I'm leaning towards CineLike V and shooting UHD at 30p. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

recd 7 Posted June 1, 2014 Edmond were those manta shots taken at "Manta Sandy"?
edmond320 26 Posted June 1, 2014 Hi Pete, I use 7-14 for wide, 60mm for macro. Yes, it's Manta Sandy for most of the shots and for the Oceanic manta at the opening, I forgot the name !! Cheers Edmond
Interceptor121 843 Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) MOV and MP4 are only containers, the content will be the same but some Mac editing programs like MOV (quicktime format) Windows tend to like MP4 better Having looked at your Raja footage the colors look off pretty much all the time you shoot with ambient light and the image quality is not what I would expect from this set up I wonder if the youtube rendering that is damaging the image quality?
