adamhanlon 0 Posted June 25, 2014 Hi folks, Nikon rumors have posted a cached copy of an early hands-on review of the new Nikon D810: http://nikonrumors.com/2014/06/25/nikon-d810-leaks-hours-before-the-announcement.aspx/ The actual leak lis from a UK site called ExpertReviews and although it has been removed, there is a cached copy here. The camera seems very similar in layout to the D800/D800e, although the Bracketing button and the Metering mode switch have been swapped in position. This will mean that existing housings will enable to access metering mode still, but probably not bracketing. The article also speaks ominously of a change in the shape of the handgrip which may presents a bigger challenge for existing D800 housing owners. Specs include better frame rate, higher ISO, improved AF and S-RAW capability. Stay tuned to the Wetpixel Full page for the full announcement from Nikon tomorrow, and we will keep you posted on housing compatibility too... Adam
E_viking 30 Posted June 26, 2014 Would be interesting with the Housing compatibility. Not that I need the updates for UW Photography. I assume that the Battery grip could be the interesting/killing issue. /Erik
DrFiscus 1 Posted June 26, 2014 Ah - the grip size - once again have the camera manufacturers made it impossible to use our existing underwater housings for a nice upgrade to an existing housing? Judging from past camera tweaks - probably. Oh well. It was such a nice thought. Andy
adamhanlon 0 Posted June 26, 2014 Full "official" details of the D810 are on the front page: http://wetpixel.com/articles/nikon-announces-the-d810-slr I'm still not sure about housing compatibility. It may still work....! Adam
Nige Wade 0 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) I've had a little play with PS comparing the D810 and D800, the overlay shows that there are very minor differences between the two. The new info button (video I think) is the only new control that wouldn't have corresponding access with existing housings. The D810's info button on the cameras back along with the top control for video (red button), exposure compensation and on/off switch appear to be slightly out too. But as you can see from the images below the D810 just might fit existing D800 housings (Fingers crossed) Edited June 26, 2014 by Nige Wade
E_viking 30 Posted June 27, 2014 It actually Looks like there could be a chances of it to work. Live view and the on/off seems to be the most endangered...
adamhanlon 0 Posted June 28, 2014 Great work Nigel! I have "spies" in the industry who will let me know what the scoop is as soon as they get their hands on a body. I will post the results as soon as I hear. What do people feel about the new specs? Overall, the response seems quite mooted. It will be interesting to see how the new sensor compares to the D800's for underwater use. Adam
DrFiscus 1 Posted June 28, 2014 I think the responses are tempered by everybody wondering if they can use their nice expensive housings on an upgraded camera vs. a moderate upgrade and need for a totally new housing or a significant set of housing modifications. Maybe somebody has a nice 3D printer that they can use to make a mockup of the D810 from the various photos that are surfacing (before anybody can get their hands on a body). Phil Rudin 454 Posted June 28, 2014 This may answer some of your questions about the D810 being used in a D-800 Nauticam D800 housing, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2L7Pzsx23U&feature=share
adamhanlon 0 Posted June 28, 2014 You beat me to it Phil! Can anyone tell us if the housing was modified? Adam
Edward Lai 36 Posted June 30, 2014 Hi Adam and Phil, The D800 housing was slightly modified by our Japan distributor to use with D810. Even we didn't know of this arrangement as they were under strict NDA with Nikon. I believe an upgrade kit can be built for existing D800 housings, save that the new 'info' button can't be accessed, and certain control may bot be 100% perfect. eyu 27 Posted June 30, 2014 Edward, Can you inquire on what slight modifications were needed? thx, Elmer
E_viking 30 Posted July 1, 2014 That is good news that an upgrade kit most likely would be possible.
