Just wondering if anyone has tried the archon video lights?

either the d34vr or w40vr or similar? are they as bright as claimed? etc.

Thinking about biting the bullet getting a w40vr and trying it out and doing a review.

I have two W38vr (previous model, twist on/off). The one I used before I purchased flooded on the dive and was replaced by the manufacturer (it wasn't mine). I suspect quality control is not tops...but buy from a dealer with good customer service and you should have no problems. Certainly my two have been beaten and smashed around in the caves and are working fine despite being scratched up. I bought them specifically for being small and light with long burn times for dry caving trips and sump diving and they fit the bill perfectly. Good weight for travel too.

I have the W38vr and it's good so far, used it for close to 30 dives. I bought mine back in March 2013. The early batch has flickering problem if you shoot video at 1400 lumen. I worked with the manufacturer from China and paid like $30 to get a new LED unit and just swap out myself. The newer batch to not have this problem. For the price, it's a good unit. It's a twist mode changing mechanism so I suspect the flooding describe here are over twist or something. The light do have two o-rings.

Since you're in Australia, you might want to check out Australia ebay because there is a seller from Hong Kong that sell the X-Adventurer M2000 but he only list it in ebay Australia. The X-Adventurer is more expensive than the Archon, but not by much and offer higher lumen and button system to change mode. The Archon 42vr do not have the twist system, but it's a lot more expensive.

I now have the Archon W38vr and the X-Adventurer M2000, the battery on the X-Adventurer last longer.

Have a chat with John Macmillan, he's the Aussie distributor. His website is here: http://archondivinglights.com.au/ He has a very short clip of mine on there showing the lighting coverage/brightness of the one I ended up buying.

Just ordered the w42vr from China. Will put a review up once I get them! Fingers crossed they are close to their claimed 5200lumens!

Archondivinglights.com.au.. Were asking double the price for the w40vr so I went with ordering in from China. Could not bring myself to accept the insane mark up.

That's the quality control surcharge :-) Hope you get good ones and look forward to seeing your footage.

I got the w32, and very happy with it..! Used it for around 150 dives now, no problems at all with it! Bought from china with "china" battery's, all good and working fine.. (in freezing coldwater diving here in norway :) i would recommend it.. only ONE thing to put on it... Got a flickering problem shown in video recordings when its used on 50%.. i hardly find the use for 50% anyways, even doing makro video.

I just bought a DRIS Impact Video light (the 3C base, but you can get it with a Stubby more compact base) and compared to a few more $ lights plus the Archon in a dive shop (not sure which model but it was tiny).

http://www.diverightinscuba.com/catalog/dris-impact-light-video-light-head.html

The DRIS was substantially brighter and wider, but much heavier/bulkier and with a slight violet tinge that the Archon lacked. Compared to the $ lights, the Archon had a little of a flat/warm/grey color tinge that I'm having a hard time describing. Maybe it was just dimmer and that's why I perceived that.

Cheers rasul.

I got the Archon w42vr in the mail finally and have done one dive with them.

First impression.. Excellent Bright lights! Stripped them down too check all possible water ingress places and all looked good. O-rings are better quality then other Chinese made dive lights I have used. I often find this the problem with cheap stuff.. Bad quality o-rings.

Only took them down to about 12 meters or so, but they preformed well, even on a shallow well lit dive.

Going to get them wet this weekend and will get some video to show how bright they are.

A friend has a sola 4000 and these honestly seem at least as bright as it. Hard to tell properly as I haven't used them at night yet.
