Like many, I am not able to start my own topic. I have completed my first post to introduce myself, but I still am only able to reply (not create a net new topic).

 

Any suggestions?

I am looking to post in Classifieds as I am interested in purchasing a used 5dm3 with nauticam housing.

Hi, sorry in advance to add myself to the list of problem children here. I have introduced myself. I can start a new topic in many forums. I am not able to start a new topic in classifieds - does this require some additional hoop? I have been a member for ages and I primarily recently logged in to post gear I have for sale. Thanks in advance!

Hi Adam, I’m new. How do I tick Notify Replies on my posts if I forgot when I posted? There doesn’t seem to be that option available any more when I Edit? If there is no way to activate the option if I forgot when I posted, how will I find replies please?

if you go into your Account>Profile you can see all the posts you have made and perhaps can pick up the thread you want from there. 
 

The Account tab will also let you Manage Followed Content  does that help?

You have to make 3 posts in other forums before being allowed to post on the classified's

It is not an issue, it is by design. Wetpixel is meant to be a community for people tot discuss underwater photography and videography, not ebay. So if you just want to flog stuff, the 3 post limit might discourage you from using Wetpixel only as a sales tool. To keep out spam bots, you must first react to an existing post (preferably the introduction thread). People that are willing to contribute are more than welcome.

It says that my profile is 0% complete and I can't post.  Yet I think I've introduced myself and uploaded some pictures.  Yet it's still 0% complete and I can't post --except for here.  Yes I've comfirmed my email & all that.

If you are trying to post a For Sale or Want To Buy in the Classifieds you need to make 3 posts first; other than that, you should be able to make posts - and I see you have made two already.

Iʻm also brand new here and had a hard time to take my first steps. Any chance to send an email to new users after their account is approved by admin with a link to a post for getting started/rules/guidlelines here? It also could be an automated message to their inbox at wetpixel.

As it happens, the system does send an automated email to members once they have completed their email verification...:)

However, as it is a system generated email, many email providers consider them spam...

I don't have an easy solution unfortunately-perhaps other members of the community may have potential solutions?

I like the idea of sending a welcome PM though...leave that with me

I'd like to suggest an exception to the 3 posts rule in the classified section, that people be allowed to immediately post in "Give your feedback on buyers/sellers". I just bought something and would like to give feedback since I couldn't find any feedback on the seller. Now I have to spam the forums to do so!

Welcome aboard and excellent that you had a good buy through WP. Happily our record for selling and buying has been pretty good.

Thanks for the thought. As I'm sure you have seen, the idea of the 3-post rule is to try and inhibit folks from just joining to sell gear. The policy has contributed towards, we think, sales being pretty successful and a happy event for both buyer and seller. Long may that remain, eh!

Coming up with an exception mechanism could be very tricky but you raise an interesting thought. We'll take a look.

Meanwhile, don't feel the need to spam but do chip-in towards some of the excellent posts that are made. I'm sure you have good things to contribute. 

And have a brilliant time in Indonesia. Some of the best diving in the world in that region - I reckon.

I am not sure what value 3 "random" posts are providing to anyone on this website. As an engineer I do my very best in life to be specific, accurate and first and foremost not waste peoples time or energy. I have already purchased an item from your classified section and this was very difficult due to my inability to post in the comment of the item. 

I signed up as a member to Wetpixel more than 2 months ago with the purpose of making sure that some of my dear underwater camera equipment will create value and great memories for a new underwater photographer. I have found it extremely difficult to figure out what was required to enable the ability to reply to threads, post threads and post threads in classified. I have reached out to the support email several time to clarify this but received no replies. 

After several searches I finally find this thread and see that several other people have had the same issue. 

While I fully understand the need to protect this community against spam and potential fake users trying to purchase and/or sell items with bad intentions, I find it hard to recognize the welcoming environment of scuba diving that I have experienced for so many years in your reply above and decision to suspend my ability to post an item for sale.

I can understand your disappointment. The aim of course is for newcomers - who are very welcome - not to sign up with 3 "random" posts so that they can sell equipment. As you rightly say, that is no help to anyone.

Spammers and Scammers have been and, sometimes, continue to be an issue on this website as they are for many others..

We have done our best over the years to try and protect Wetpixel members from both the annoyance of these characters - and from the potential fraud issues.

By and large the 3-post rule is usually observed and generally understood. However you are right of course, one or two new members have struggled a bit with the concept. But we hope they come to appreciate that we are trying to protect and keep this community as a valuable, helpful and friendly resource. Sales on Wetpixel are largely trouble-free and we want to keep it that way. 

I hope you'll find Wetpixel and its members provide a wealth of knowledge that is shared freely and helpfully to the benefit of us all and without the annoyance of Scammers.

@ChristofferBB - This forum exists and thrives on its members' generous willingness to share their knowledge, experiences and skills with members of the Wetpixel community. This sharing of knowledge and experience is what makes Wetpixel such an amazing and unique venue for underwater image makers. The use of the Classifieds allows those members to recycle their used equipment.

If you are not prepared to contribute to this community by sharing your ideas and thoughts and experiences in 3 posts, but simply want to offload your used gear, I suggest that you are better served using venues like eBay or any of the other commercial sales sites.

I should also point out that literally tens of thousands of people have managed to figure out how to post. It is true that the process requires several steps, but this is what helps to maintain the quality of our community. Your registered email address has been used once to reach out to support, as you were chasing approval after 24 hours. Did you use an alternate email address to contact the support email?

Appreciate your reply. As mentioned, I understand the need to protect a community like this from people with fraudulent intentions and scammers in general, I had just hoped this could have been resolved without the need to both delete my posting in the classified forum and disable my ability to post here (which does seems to have been restored, so thank you very much for that).

Just to confirm, as I explained, your Classified post wasn’t deleted - just suspended until you had made the three appropriate posts required under the new members policy.
