dstar 0 Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) Hello Ladies and Gentlmen! I'm planning my trip to Tenerife in June and interested in photographing there whales, dolphins, baitballs and other pelagic animals. Could someone please recommend me a good dive shop that is convenient for UW photographers? Probably guys who specialise in big animals. Thanks! mikan 4 Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) Hi I'm sorry but is not allowed to dive with dolphins and whales in the Canary Islands, they are very protected. All the pictures that you can see on internet are from people who have permission from the spanish/canarian government. And I can asure you that is not easy to have this kind of permission. Sorry Edited March 23, 2015 by mikan
r4e 24 Posted March 23, 2015 Like Mr. Benitez pointed out, much of the sea areas west of Tenerife are protected areas for whales and dolphins. However, if you are lucky, you might see individual dolphins or groups of dolphins occasionally near some of the fish farms. Many of the Los Cristianos and Playa Americas based dive companies pass the fish farms south of Los Cristianos daily. However, these companies might not accomodate your needs, if you need longer dive times etc. There are also fish farms further north. There are some dive companies who are more flexible for the needs of photographers, e.g. Solo Buceo and La Morena Diving, but their regular routes do not pass the fish farms. ChrigelKarrer 52 Posted March 23, 2015 If you are interested to see (and maybe photograph) whales, dolphins, bait balls and other pelagic animals, the Azores are most likely the much better choice. Chris
dstar 0 Posted March 24, 2015 Thanks for the valuable advise! My idea was to combine family vacation with some not bad (I would not say top notch) underwater photographing.
dstar 0 Posted March 24, 2015 Hm, I found in the Internet numerous offers for daily whale and dolphin watching excursions in Tenerife. They offer watching and snorkeling for tourists. I'm okay about snorkeling just would prefer to do it with a small team of naturalists instead of crowded tourists boats.
