San Miguel Island

Recommended Posts

This last weekend I was able to go on a trip to San Miguel Island. SMI is one of the hardest islands in the Channel Islands chain to get to. This island is the most western and most exposed island of the Channel Islands. The water here is almost usually very cold. I was averaging 53 degrees for most of my dives. Thank goodness for a drysuit. With that said, SMI is also an excellent place for macro photography. It is full of nudibranches and other macro life. Here are some pictures from this weekend's trip to SMI:

Thanks Sean,

I used to love getting to out Miguel on my little 27 when we lived in Oxnard. Thanks for the memories. Some really beautiful images.

Cheers,

Steve

Wow you would go to SMI on a 27'. Even in a 65' boat it is not a fun ride. I can't imagine being in a 27' boat for that ride.

That was a sailboat Sean, she could go anywhere. We even took her to Guadalupe.

Miss the Channel Islands as well. My favorite was the sea lion rookery off Santa Barbara.
