Interceptor121 712 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) First micro four thirds with 20mp sensor 4K video and a bunch of other features including dual image stabiliser http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-g-compact-system-cameras/dmc-gx8.html Edited July 16, 2015 by Interceptor121
EspenB 15 Posted July 17, 2015 Signs of improvements to come in the GH5 in about 6 months. ;-)
EspenB 15 Posted July 17, 2015 Btw Dual image stabilization only works with selected Panasonic lenses after a future firmware upgrade. As known neither the 7-14 mm or 8 mm fisheye lens have built in OIS leaving the possibility not available for wide angle underwater photography.
thetrickster 328 Posted July 17, 2015 The IBIS doesn't work in video mode either on this GX8. Lets hope the GH5 has 'proper' 5 axis.... (given that they seem happy to support non native, non stabilised lenses - like anamorphic and the new Veydra primes.
Atobit 20 Posted July 17, 2015 Would be interesting to see an underwater anamorphic footage, unfortunately the Veydra anamorphic prime lenses are going to cost a lot: 5,000USD per unit. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
thetrickster 328 Posted July 17, 2015 Thats chump change compared to a Cooke Verdya's 'normal' primes look an interesting prospect for underwater, as from what I can tell, the lenses are all the same form factor and same focus ring setup etc - so could all share the same dome

(given that they seem happy to support non native, non stabilised lenses - like anamorphic and the new Veydra primes. I was reading on image resource and am not sure that is the case. There is a combination of lens, sensor shift and electronic stabiliser The latter should work with any lens but involve crop The camera has the most advanced stabilisation you can have by combining 3 methods What it doesn't have is the professional HD modes and am unsure if you can connect a recorder? thetrickster 328 Posted July 17, 2015 I think this is the situation: Panasonic Lenses with OIS: In 1080 you get Dual IS In 4k you get OIS only Native m43 lenses without OIS In 1080 you get IBIS In 4K you get nothing Non Native / Adaptive Lenses In 1080p you get IBIS In 4K you get nothing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interceptor121 712 Posted July 17, 2015 It does have pixels to crop around also in 4K but we shall see
dfein 0 Posted August 24, 2015 is there a housing for the GX8?
thetrickster 328 Posted August 24, 2015 No news on a GX8 housing - yet. I wouldn't be surprised if someone does come out with one.
dfein 0 Posted August 24, 2015 Not trying to change the topic of this thread, but regarding new mirrorless, do you have any experience with the Sony A72 or A7r2 underwater? They both have nauticam housings.
dfein 0 Posted August 24, 2015 Anyone with experience with the GH4 underwater stills? I know the video is great, but want to see some examples of stills.
Griff 23 Posted August 29, 2015 Are Nauticam or any other housings planned for the Panasonic G7 or GX8? The G7 is a cheap alternative to the GH4 with 4k and no housing manufacturers have bought a housing out yet. I think they have missed a trick there as it would make a great underwater camera especially for video. I know flash synch is only 1/160 for stills but everything else checks out in the specs. Interceptor121 712 Posted August 29, 2015 Nauticam is working on the G7 housing
Griff 23 Posted August 29, 2015 Thanks was considering it as a 4k video camera.
Interceptor121 712 Posted August 30, 2015 I had a look at it too as a 4K video. The crop factor is different from the GH4 and it doesn't have any in body stabilisation even for 1080p. I wonder what the cost of the housing will be as the ergonomics are pretty much the same. So could end up not being a massive saving
Griff 23 Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) Yeah have to see if priced the same as EM10 housing or might not be worth it. Also the price of GH4 camera is coming down now a sit gets closer to GH5 coming out. Edited August 30, 2015 by Griff
Glasseye Snapper 47 Posted August 30, 2015 http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/mentions that Panasonic will announce the GH4R in October at the PhotoPlus show. It is supposed to be " basically a GH4 with V-LG added". Whatever that may mean. Bart
Interceptor121 712 Posted August 31, 2015 When it comes to 4K the 3 Panasonic mirrorless GH4, G7 and GX8 are pretty similar looking at sample footage. The G7 does not have external connectivity the other two do, with the new GH4R there will be a professional v-log option so the 3 cameras are clearly set in the various boxes: G7: entry level 4K for people that use footage as it GX8: almost professional option with HDMI output GH4R: professional option with v-log and HDMI output The GH5 will most likely feature the hybrid os in 1080p that currently is only on the GX8 If you don't grade your footage the G7 should be ok. The G7 does have a few buttons more than the OMD-EM10 and is bigger I bet the housing price will be somewhere between the EM10 and the EM5 without handles
Interceptor121 712 Posted August 31, 2015 Alex from Nauticam UK told me the G7 project has been abandoned by Nauticam because it would have not been compatible with the current set of ports I wonder if there will be a GX8 housing

When I spoke with Nauticam a month ago they were working on the G7 housing, and it was expected to be ready around September. It would really suck if they don't make a housing for this camera. dr.rob 2 Posted September 1, 2015 I am a little confused because the Nauticam USA site clearly shows a housing for the GX7: http://www.nauticamusa.com/news/2014/2/20/housing-for-panasonic-gx7?rq=panasonic I would expect they will soon make a housing for the GX8, as this seems to be currently the best m4/3 camera for underwater.
