Lipsman 0 Posted June 22, 2004 Hello All! New to the site and asking questions already... I have a Sony DSC-V1 and am probably going to pick up the Ikelite Housing for it. I have an upcoming Honeymoon to Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for shooting good pics on the reef? I doubt we'll be diving too deep as neither my future wife or I have ever been diving before. So any advice on camera setup, filters, wide angle lenses, and maybe even strobes if necessary, will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance!!! james 0 Posted June 22, 2004 Hi Jon, welcome to the group! It sounds like it's time for you to take a trip to the "Features" section here at Wetpixel and check out the Wiseman Beginner Column. Lots of good articles there to get you started right. Hope that helps (HTH) James
Panda 3 Posted June 22, 2004 You really need to be able to dive one handed before you can concentrate on photography. Do the dive course first and take photos after you are comfortable diving. Oh, and your wife and instructor will probably not appreciate your lack of good buddy attention whilst peering through your camera during training.
Lipsman 0 Posted June 23, 2004 Thanks for the advice guys! I'll have to see what the instructor(s) will let me do when I get there, I don't want to hurt anyone, including myself that's for sure!! If I only get to snap some pictures while snorkeling that's fine too. I just want to be able to remember for the rest of my life I got to Dive on the Great Barrier Reef!!! Anyone else have any advice for me??

Anyone else have any advice for me?? Dear Jon, Sounds like you & your wife need to determine if your going to get certified while your Holidaying ( dedicated 4-5 days ) or if you just going to be try it out to see if you like it types. Either way everybody here has been in your shoes . Excited about a holiday and a whole new adventure with abunch of new toys. Whatever you choose you will probally find that the dive operator has a "professional underwater photgrapher " on staff, who for a small consideration could make you and the new Mrs Jon look like experts in the field. Just a thought - sometimes the best memory photos are the ones we're in. Enjoy the GBR Bring plenty of kwells if your coming soon. Peter
