infestant lionfish?

Recommended Posts

I have seen diving operators advertising dive sites where divers could catch 'infestant lionfish' and then use it as a bait to attract sharks and other species.

Has anybody seen this behaviour during some dive? Have to say that it seems quite wrong to me...

In the Carribean the lionfish is invasive, has no natural predators, and is breeding basically out of control. Many marine preserves, no matter how strict their no touch or no take policies are for other fishes, are permitting lionfish kills.

Personally, I'm all for it. And, it's tasty. Looking forward to eating a bunch in Dominica soon.

I have seen morays, sharks and groupers hunting for lionfish... maybe lionfish are growing in number because these predators are less?
