jchance 2 Posted July 20, 2016 I am using a D7100 inside a Nauticam housing. I have 2 Inon strobes hooked up via fiberoptics. How can I set the camera to force flash EVERY shot. It usually does but occasionally they fail to fire despite being charged. What camera settings should I have to insure this? Thanks!
trimix125 73 Posted July 20, 2016 Hi,you can set them to minus f stops ( flash button left side in front from the finder ), but then you must shoot them manual, ttl is not possible in that case.If the strobe is in minus, it needs less energy, so it recycles faster.Hope that helps.Regards,Wolfgang
steve c r 2 Posted July 20, 2016 flash on camera set to manual 128th power to save battery strobes will fire every time if camera in manual mode or shutter priority or aperture priority modes. hope this helps
Pavel Kolpakov 82 Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) If you plan to continue shoot with TTL, the best way to avoid pop-up flash recycle time is to install any optical TTL Converter to the housing. Such LED device does not need any recycle time. Continuous shooting (CL, CH) is also available there. I shoot 6 fps underwater sometimes (CH mode) by my Nikon, no problem. Kraken de Mabini 202 Posted July 19, 2017 I shoot a Subal (and also a Nexus housing) with the Nikon camera in Manual mode, 1/128 flash power to save battery. For the past 3 years I have used home made Toslink fiber-optic 4 mm cables to trigger two Inon Z240 or Sea&Sea YS D2 strobes, no cable problems. Cable total cost about $5.- For the Sea&Sea YS D2 strobes, Mode setting M works fine. TTL sort of works in Shutter priority mode, so I probably need an adapter, but have not found one. If anybody knows the circuit for a Nikon TTL converter, please post it in Wetpixel and on the web. The circuit is rudimentary, the converter hardware is maybe $20 at most, so that the current prices of about $500 for the housing-specific converters is a bit excessive. Good luck!
