Mostafa Shams 0 Posted September 22, 2016 i am planning on wide angle shoot with tokina 10-17mmand wonder about ikelite housing for those who used them they are offering different arms for the DS51 one of them is flex arm and the other is double 7" arms ? is there a difference when using tokina 10-17mm or the flex arm will work great with it ?or i have to get the double arm ? Cerianthus 55 Posted September 22, 2016 The double arm will give more distance from the camera for strobe placement, so you can light subjects further away. For closer subjects, it will matter less. Flex/squeaky arms vs ball arms is a matter of personal preference. Have a look at the strobe arm length pinned thread in the lighting forum. Cerianthus 55 Posted September 22, 2016 Ps. Lighting wide angle scenes at a distance is quite difficult with the ds51. It is better suited for cfwa. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk
Mostafa Shams 0 Posted September 23, 2016 So if i wanted to get nice photos of my diving buddy i will face dificulties with the Ds51 ?!!so situations like the attached photo must have ds125 or ds160 to get it right ?
TimG 62 Posted September 23, 2016 Hi Mostafa This looks pretty good to me. The strobes have lit up your buddy pretty well and you could, if you really wanted to, adjust with software his lower half and lighten it slightly. But I doubt any strobe(s) would light up the reef if that is what you are thinking of.
Grantjpthomas 16 Posted September 23, 2016 If you are using the DS51 the flex arm should be ok but heavier strobes such as the DS125 or 160 might be an issue as the weight of them will cause the flex arm to move especially if diving in a current. As Gerard said the DS51 will certainly be more for CFWA. I doubt you could light a diver in the water like the picture you have attached, not as evenly anyway. I use 2 InonZ240's with my ikelite housing and tokina 10-17mm (i shoot manual as no TTL functionally with inons) and these are very effective.
