bdickson 0 Posted July 20, 2004 Does anyone know if Aquatica has produced a zoom gear for the 18-70 or will one of the existing gears fit? I tried a search with no results, and e-mailed Aquatica with even less success. Bruce Dickson
bdickson 0 Posted July 22, 2004 My 18-70 arrived last night and I can now answer my own question. The zoom gear for the 12-24 is a perfect fit on the 18-70. I tried it in my 8 inch dome port, and it needs the same extension ring as the 12-24. The 18-70 changes barrel length as it zooms, and with a diopter installed it comes dangerously close to the inside of the dome without an extension.
kdietz 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Hi Bruce, I'll be interested in what you think of the 18-70....I haven't been able to give it a decent test underwater, but I've really enjoyed it topside Let us know when you get it wet Karl
pmooney 6 Posted July 22, 2004 we have been trialing the 18-70 in our titans for a few weeks to prove the value of the kit lens. combine a few close-up elements and it is a underrated piece of glass. It might take some practise / thinking for those not in tune to produce the goods. If you can;t afford any thing else - a result is assured. It works for us; all the best feel free peter mooney scubapix, com

bdickson 0 Posted July 23, 2004 The Aquatica Zoom gear for the Nikkor 18-70mm is part # 18706 Jean, Merci bien! So the 18-70 zoom gear is different to the 12-24 zoom gear (18696)? I tried my 12-24 gear on my 18-70 and it seems to fit perfectly. Am I missing something? Also, can you confirm which extension ring is needed with the 8 inch dome on the S2 housing? Again, my 12-24 extension (18456) seems to work ok. Thanks, Bruce Dickson
bdickson 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Let us know when you get it wet : The bad news is that it will be August 14 before I get it wet. The good news is that I will be at the Stephen Frink Underwater Digital Photography class, so I should be able to get some feedback from the FrinkMeister himself.
