Jolly 3 Posted April 5, 2017 Hi, one of my Ikelite DS125 strobes got hit at the front edge. The inner metal ring at the front has been bend (see photo). I wasn't sure if the sealing was affected. But after the next dive the strobe didn't fire anymore and no recycle buzz sound. Anybody with similar experience and can tell if service still makes sense or better buy another one? Thanks Julian
Cerianthus 55 Posted April 5, 2017 Depending on were you are it doesn't hurt to let Ikelite have a look. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk Depending on were you are it doesn't hurt to let Ikelite have a look. I see you're in Germany. Try Aquaphot.co.uk. I've had good experience with them fixing Ikelite stuff. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk
emptech 2 Posted May 26, 2017 Somehow the white metal ring on one of my strobes was dented, distorted, I just bent it back, don't know what caused it. It had no effect on my strobe. However, during a trip to Bonaire, my ds160 received a crack in the clear lens off to the edge where it wasn't noticed, the strobe flooded, not repairable. It's just a metal ring, but the fact that it is bent, your strobe took a hit and should be examined. Jim
onokai 18 Posted May 28, 2017 (edited) Its needs to be sent to Ikelite for service . I had a 161 battery flood at Wakatobi last march-they replaced that and serviced the strobe head. Yours took a hit and needs to be serviced. They will look at it and give you a quote -so if you decide its to much and buy a new one all you will be out is the shipping cost. whitey 2 Posted May 29, 2017 Jolly! I just logged in for the first time in a while cos I was thinking about what you said to me about MY flooded strobe - that I'm trying to sell still - and what Ike said to us about people who flood/damage his gear. And here you are, first post in the forum, and mistreating an Ikelite strobe to boot. I hope you are well, sir. Is the Ikelite eTTL out yet? I shall be dropping the price of my DS-50 by another 10%, look for the post in this forum. It would make an excellent replacement for the DS-125 that you have so poorly treated. Oh, another thought. Do you want to buy my EwaMarine bag, you can use the DS-125 in that, so you won't have to worry about the front seal being damaged. Let me know, I'll,give you a good price. Grantjpthomas 16 Posted May 30, 2017 Thats unfortunate! When my DS 125 strobe flooded the capacitors inside must have shorted and i heard a pop sound along with a broken bulb. If you get in contact with Ikelite they may offer a part exchange with discounted price on a DS 160/161. Good luck!
OldDiver.com 0 Posted June 30, 2017 Or you could buy the D125s that I just posted in the classifieds.
Jolly 3 Posted November 24, 2017 Thank You guys! Ikelite ran out of DS125 spare parts so I've chosen the upgrade option to DS160 for 450$. Curious how the manual power control in conjunction with DS125 (two strobe setup) will work. Should be no big issue. However some numbers as starting point for roughly synced settings.
