adamhanlon 0 Posted October 13, 2017 I have been watching an interesting poll on Facebook posted by Allison Vitsky Sallmon (@vetdiver) about full circle fisheye images. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155271763902261&set=a.10150596118557261.373431.612532260&type=3&theater Typically this are images created with lenses with a focal length of 8mm on full frame sensor cameras and 4.5mm or so on cropped. Of course, it also also achievable using Photoshop in post. In the interests of the poll being available for some time, I have added one here too. It is not mandatory, but if you feel the urge, please feel free to comment on what you like/dislike about this type of image too... I hope for some interesting comments and debate! adamhanlon 0 Posted October 13, 2017 Just to get the ball rolling... I'm typically not a great fan of full circle images. To me, the (typically) black negative space detracts from the subject. In effect almost half the frame...is the frame! Whilst there are some subjects that do lend themselves to this type of effect, this same subject often look equally stunning when shot with a conventional fisheye. SwiftFF5 131 Posted October 16, 2017 I am not a fan either, basically for the same reasons.
Geo Cloete 2 Posted October 17, 2017 I also don't like them in general. The times when they add true value to the photo as few and far in between. So not a total no go, but if its gonna be used, use it like a real tool and not only rely on the obvious as it gives a gimmicky impress imho.
goose 2 Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) I love it.!! Would defy put it on my wall.! For me me its visual thing. You/we often look at things with blinkers on, you know straight down the middle kinda thing. Plus a lot of images can appear flat so to speak. Remember we are underwater and trying to get a picture across, we make a photo and what better way than to create a full on in ya face fish eye kinda thing going on. I agree it has to impress as the image above, Alex's I do belive, and not all images would work. Really find it hard not to swear now.!!!!
