I agree, i might of been tempted to eventually get the GH5s body as a good mid-term upgrade to extend the life of my housing. But the removal of IBIS really does make the upgrade less appealing.

I suppose clever marketing from Panasonic. There is a real clear divide between the GH5 and GH5s

Agreed. I still have the gh4 and was hoping the 5s would be my new camera but as it is right now the gh5 looks a lot more appealing. How is the low light in the gh5 compared to the gh4 btw? Maybe better asked in the gh5 thread..

Here it is

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/panasonic-gh5s-announced_us_5a537d6ae4b0cd114bdb350a

It has 4k 60p only at 8bit and no IBIS. Makes it (not such) a tough call whether its worth the upgrade.

I was cautiously optimistic that this camera would be a good replacement / companion to my GH5 for use filming deep, dark glass sponge reefs....

Would love to see some real-world footage showing low-light performance.

Honestly I gotta say I'm impressed. I could live with the 8 bit if only they didnt remove the ibis.

Someone with a lot of money to spend could get a 5s with their gh5 and use the 5s for the deeper/ night dives and the gh5 for everything else seeing as they both fit in the same housing.

Us mere mortals will probably stick with the gh5 tho.

As Davide signature righty says

“Your new gear will not make you produce any better art”

High ISO looks great! But I think i would rather buy more lights at this point.

Bigger lights can't really compensate for high ISO tho, unless u can get really close.. Obviously.

For locations where you're shooting sharks and big stuff the 5s would be a better choice IMO, but only in those types of places.

Yeah, that is true in terms of really big stuff.

Don’t go making me, go buy one....

Looking forward to seeing the side by side reviews and how much it’s better on a big monitor. Only seen stuff on my phone so far and that doesn’t do it justice.

Very interesting video. Look at the noise in the dark part of the robe at ISO 6400 en 12800 when GH5 en GH5s are compared. Quiet impressive, also compared to the other cameras

IBIS: you can't have it all. Bigger sensor also means no extra room to move the sensor around. Then the heat issues, the fact that the loose sensor sometimes broke in professional use (on car suction cups for example) and that the pro's use tripods or gimbals if they really want stable footage. I can understand the trade off.

EDIT: furthermore, one can easily stabilise in post production. Which is essentially the same as moving the sensor around.

I will wait till the price drops or get me a second hand in a year or so to complement my equipment. It is really nice that the button lay out is the same.

Yes, you cannot have it all.

Ad I wrote in another thread, pro video camera don't have IBIS.

It has a 10MP sensor so it means that it has 1:1 sensor pixel / video pixel.

Moreover a cooler sensor hence lower noise.

I'm running the GH5 on autoISO (so I can set the shutter and aperture) and got it set to max of 6400. Inside FCPX when I'm cutting it all together, I can't tell what the iso the camera picks (which is bit annoying) but so fair I've not questioned the quality of the footage - really feel it is a big step up from the GH4, but saying that I was never really disappointed in the GH4 either.
