Nauticam vacuum system battery life?

Hello,

I finally decided on a camera system for my Mexico trip next week: my Sony a6300 in an NA-a6300 Nauticam housing. I also purchased the optional Nauticam vacuum valve. I'm wondering what the battery life is like for the little CR2032 cell that mounts in the housing and powers its leak and vacuum detection system. My plan is to seal up the housing in the morning before leaving the hotel, and then leave it closed with the vacuum system on all day. I'll be on a small panga boat in open Pacific water, so I do not want to open the housing between dives. But I have no clue what the battery life is like for this system, and can't seem to find the info online anywhere. I'm planning two days of diving. Will that one little CR2032 cell power the system for potentially 12-15 hours (2 days, 6 hours each day)?? I don't mind if I have to swap out the battery after one full day of diving, but will it even last that long? It's too bad you can't turn the system off without opening the housing. What say you fine folks?

The battery will last for many months that way. Using mine since May, I did like 60 dives with it, sometimes closing the housing in the evening before. It is still going strong. I always take a spare battery, but none needed so far.

I second rollin. My first 2032 was still going strong after a year with 40-50 dives, using it like you said - sealed up and left on all day. I changed it after a year because I was getting nervous, not because the battery low indicator was flashing...

I basically do that for all my dives. I have done about 50 double dives over 2 years with the housing and the battery is still going strong. I would estimate 500 hours so far. BTW my system uses a CR2450 battery which is quite a sizable battery. A 2032 is smaller. I guess your housing uses the 2032 as it is physically smaller, the rated capacity of the 2450 is 620 mA-hr, while the 2032 is rated at 240mA-hr.

 

Based on that you should get at least 20 full days use out of the 2032, possibly significantly more. My original battery is still going strong so I really don't know how much life I've used up. I purchased a spare when I bought the housing, but have not used it.

A Nauticam person told me I could probably get 5000h out of the 2450 in the vacuum system.

That is probably possible, though the battery also self discharges slowly, so will depend on how often you dive, it would take me maybe 15-20 years at my current dive activity to clock up 5000 hrs, and the battery would exceed its shelf life before then.. The circuit would also need careful design, if it were to last 5000 hrs, then based on 620 mA-hr capacity, the circuit would need to draw 0.3 mW and a current of 0.12 mA. This seems a little on the low side as LEDs generally need a minimum current to operate, maybe 1-2 mA for a low power LED.

 

The 2032 would be looking at 1900 hrs based on ratio of battery capacity.
