Looking for advice on 3D-printed zoom gears

Recommended Posts

I've just bought one.

Now I'm in the mess of post Brexit custom workflow. I did not pay any VAT and now I should pay it in Italy. What a mess!

I've been on the lookout for that one as well, but seems no luck...v1 yes, PZ yes, but v2 nope.
There is also a company in Germland that does 3d printed ones, no clue about quality:

On behalf of the British Nation, I apologise unreservedly for the utter ***up of Brexit. I spent a 35-year career promoting Britain in the EU. I could weep.

Good to know.

Lens gears are the most outrageously expensive piece of equipment. A disgrace.

They should give them out like candy in hotel baskets, but...

P.S

After nearly two years and a couple hundred dives my DeepShot gear is rock solid!

Just saw this post. I am heavy in to 3d printing. I print all my gears. I use FreeCad as a design platform. A little learning curve but works great. Good tutorials from"Mango Jelly Solutions for FreeCad" on YouTube. I have already printed a watertight 3d housing for a Osmo pocket 2. I am now working an adapters for Nauticam housing to other ports.

Those look like some very nice gears, obviously high-quality prints! I'm just getting into 3D printing now and bought a printer a few weeks ago. I got a Creality 3 S1 printer. I've done a couple of original designs and printed in PLA and PLA+ to date. Results have been pretty impressive, but there was some adjustment to move from one material to another.  I did my designs in FreeCad and Fusion 360 so far, and may poke around with OnShape. My impression so far is that Fusion 360 seems to be quite a bit more sophisticated than FreeCad, and not any harder to use.

I'm curious what your are using for your prints, can you share some details?

For gears I use a semi flex material, Colorfab nGen flex .For rigid parts I like California filament matte black petg. The  printede circular discs, to block out writing on the front of lens, uses this matte PETG. Parts are printed on  a Creality cr-10 v2, .04 nozzle. Freedad has a gear envolute gear in the parts design menu. Add the modulus, number of teeth and angle of gear and the extrude in the parts menu. I think PLA does not have the UV and heat stability of PETG.
