sinetwo 31 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) Hi all, Has anyone had luck with On1 over lightroom for example? My main concern with buying in to the CC is that my post processing is far too sporadic - life gets in the way and I may not do any post processing for months. Therefore I'm looking at alternatives to buy something permanent. I know that adobe is/has been the market leader, and I'm well versed with Adobe products, but their move to cloud simply doesn't suit my lifestyle/use. I haven't been able to find many posts on On1 (in fact, no articles or posts) with regards to underwater photography. Does anyone have experience with this, particularly with things like: White balance Masking/alpha for separation of exposure etc. Spot removal Sharpness Watermarks And anything else generally used for UWP Any info would be greatly appreciated. decostanza 2 Posted May 19, 2018 Sinetwo... I recently purchased On1 and am in the infancy stages of learning the software. I purchased it on the recommendation of a bud who raved about the ability to maintain quality when doing very large prints. I force myself to bring at least one image into it to learn the software but find old habits die hard...and thus revert back to Lightroom/photoshop. I can’t say I’m overly impressed...yet...but also take that comment from someone that has only been learning it for a couple months and has many years of Adobe experience. sinetwo 31 Posted May 19, 2018 Yeah me too, I tried the trial today - however I have one HUGE issue with it. Within develop, all the tools are NOT available - e.g. crop/rotate. You have to click in to layers, and that then takes a long-ish time to get you the tools you need. Unfortunately the above means its a non starter for me, as almost the first thing I do before I even start is to rotate/crop if required.
hyp 115 Posted May 22, 2018 I've heard good things about Exposure X3 in regards to being a competent Lightroom clone. I've not tried it myself, but you may want to give it a go.
sinetwo 31 Posted May 22, 2018 I actually ended up buying Lightroom 6 (standalone desktop client) - it was £111 off the official Adobe website, which seemed a decent price. For Adobe CC you'll need to shell out £10 per month, so provided I use LR6 for more than 11 months, I'll start 'saving'. For the D500, the latest update is required (6.12 I believe). LR6 has reached end of life, which means Adobe won't provide updates to support newer cameras... But I don't see myself upgrading for a while! I'm guessing they'll take LR6 off at some point when they're pushing CC even harder...
scubamarli 5 Posted June 4, 2018 For your D500, just convert your NEF files to DNG using the free Adobe DNG converter. Then import as usual into Lightroom 6.
JackConnick 76 Posted June 4, 2018 Luminosity from Skylum Software has a lot of potential. I really like Aurora HDR 2018.
bvanant 195 Posted June 8, 2018 Jack: You are a much smarter guy than I am if you can move easily between LR and Luminar. I just don't get the workflow in Luminar. Cheers and see you at the Scuba Show? BVA
