Rubber grommets to silence housing lanyard connection

Not sure if this is old news, but if you are in the US, Lowe's carries a selection of rubber grommets in the hardware section. They are between $1 and $2 a pair. They come in many sizes, so I just brought the handle to pick the right ones.

 

These work great on Nauticam housings to keep lanyard connectors from rattling.

Thanks Tim, not my idea though - a while back I bought a Sea & Sea housing lanyard and it came with two such grommets. I was just happy to find out that these are also readily available at Lowe's in a variety of sizes.

Nice! Grommets can come in handy for lots of things underwater as well as automotive. I use them whenever I run wires through sheet metal.

 

eBay has rubber grommet kits available for under $8. I'll bet 180 pieces will last you many years.

 

I like your "handle" too. Is that DIY?

thanks. Easy to do - 2 spare bolt snaps, some paracord and a few hours of spare time. I originally used Sea & Sea lanyard, (that's where the idea of rubber grommets comes from) but didn't like that the rope inside the vinyl tubing never got fully dry. This one dries in a few hours.

Thanks a lot Tim! But I didn't find exactly the technique mt-m used...It seems to me perfect, because it's not not small to create pain in the should er region when transporting...

Hard to put it in words, but I'll try

 

EDIT: almost forgot - you'll need paracord about 30 times the length of your handle, maybe more to be on the safe side. Would hate to run out of paracord 2/3 of the way...

 

Cut it in two, making the first one a little longer as it will also form the core of the handle.

 

Take the first part, fold it in half, loop the double cord around one snap bolt's eyelet, then thread the two ends across each other through the second snap bolt's eyelet at the length you want the handle to be. This will become the "core" of the handle - it will prevent the weaved part from stretching when under load. Now take the other part and thread it through the second bolt snap's eyelet. arrange the four ends so that if you were looking from the top, they form a cross. Now take two opposing ends and make loops over their perpendicular ends....

 

... and just as my head was about to explode, I found this video - apparently this type is called "crown knot"

 

 

Follow this knot until you reach the other end of your "core", secure the ends and melt them down.

One thing I do differently from the video is I cut the ends a little longer - about 5-6mm. This way, when I melt the ends, they form a nice rounded end that is about 1.5 times the diameter of the cord, so there is less chance it will unravel. Then press it in, just as in the video.
