mmt_florida 0 Posted September 12, 2018 I have a pair of Ikelite DS-125s with a dual TTL sync cord I've been shooting with for probably 9 years. They have been glitchy for the past year, and I feel like I am constantly troubleshooting them. Much of the time, one strobe fires and the other doesn't. Sometimes both fire. Just looking for opinions on whether I should send them in to Ikelite for service (not sure how much that would end up costing) or if it makes more sense to just upgrade to the DS-160? mmt_florida 0 Posted September 12, 2018 Yes, I tried switching strobes - doesn't seem like the cable is an issue. Doesn't look corroded anywhere either, but I have cleaned all the connections just in case. I think maybe one strobe (or one battery pack) is just maybe recycling slower than the other? water buffalo 13 Posted September 12, 2018 (edited) If you think one strobe is not recycling as quickly as the other it should be easy to check. Set up everything inside the house, bend both strobes close to each other so you can see the ready lights, set them both to the same power level and take a picture (or three). Watch the ready lights and you'll have a better idea of what is going on. If, in fact, one of the strobes is coming ready slower than the other, power off both strobes, switch the batteries, and try again. sunnyboy010101 12 Posted September 12, 2018 On a related note, all of my sync cord problems were the cord, not the connectors. I spend weeks trying to troubleshoot and diagnose my DS51 problem, only to discover it was the "power wire" in the cable. New cable solved the problem. (* on my G16 Ikelite TTL housing, the TTL circuit board is in the housing, but the power for the board comes from the strobe. Poor batteries can display the same problem as a bad cord, but changing the batteries for new ones eliminates that problem.) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
clairegoodwin 0 Posted October 8, 2018 I just contacted ikelite as the head of my similarly aged ds125 stopped working. They don't do repair for the 125 any more but they will give a substantial discount on the ds160 or 161 when you trade it in.
