Does DSLR viewfinder diopter setting change for underwater use?

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon-

I dive with prescription bifocal mask and can see my computer, etc well underwater.

Just got a Sea & Sea MDX-d7100 housing. If the d7100 camera's viewfinder diopter is set so that image and data are sharp on land, will that same setting be good underwater?

Is it something I should check underwater in a pool or lake before taking it on a dive?

( I am asking because the diopter adjustment can't be changed when the camera is in the housing )

Thanks for you help!

David

I wear bifocals above water.

I have lens made and installed in my dive mask for general underwater vision.

For in focus shooting, I have trust my Nikon auto focus over my eyesight since I gave up the Nikonos!.

Hi David

You'd still be looking at the same focal length on your viewfinder underwater as you would above water. So I don't think it shouldn't make any difference. But, sure, check it out if you can in advance of a dive trip.

As Okuma suggests, all else being equal (sediment in the water, fast moving critters etc) trust the Nikon auto-focus! But you should be able to read the viewfinder information as clearly underwater as topside.
