inon z240 green lamp is always on, what does it mean?

Recommended Posts

I am on holiday with a buddy who's inon z240 green lamp is always on, what does it mean? Even when the power is off and batteries on (of course) the green lamp is on. The strobe does not fire and he uses a fiber optic cable. All ports/battery compartment are clean and no water entry.

Any help?

Hi, Marc:

It is helpful for somebody who is replying to know the country you live in, and maybe a few other dive/photo details, all nicely organized in your Member page. Personally, I have filled out most of the details on my page and have had no reason to regret doing so, as only Wetpixelers who sign in can view this page.

If your buddy's Z240's strobe does not fire and the green light does not turn off when the strobe switch is Off, this means there is an internal circuit defect. The Inon strobes are not built to be repaired by amateurs, but by trained persons. If your buddy lives in the USA, a good repair place is Reef Photo in Ft Lauderdale, FL. You can look them up in the web, they are most cooperative and reasonable. There are also several other excellent Inon repair/dealers such as Backscatter and Optical Ocean Sales on West Coast of the US.

Good luck!

Thanks, Reef Photo came back to me and said it is a motherboard issue, but they have no service parts available. Bummer.

Maybe try Optical Ocean Sales in Seattle and Backscatter in Monterey CA and Derry, NH

A repair site in Italy is http://www.teloriparo.com/ but I know nothing about it.

Hopefully other Wetpixel members may wish to suggest other repair sites.

It would be useful if we pooled in Wetpixel our knowledge of strobe repair sites.

It would also be useful if strobe parts lists and repair manuals were published by strobe manufacturers.

The time is ripe for strobe manufacturers to live up to their responsibility to us photographers to design, produce and market reasonably priced strobes with a long service life and accessible repairs. As it is, given the high prices of US $500 to over $800 to plus $1,000 for short lived or unreliable strobes (like the brands suddenly pulled from the market in the past few years) and no repair facilities or publications, and as attested to by the many Wetpixelers with bad strobe experiences, we underwater photographers are being exploited by the strobe makers and retailers.

I will sign your petition if you have one. Unfortunately I will think no manufacturer will be that kind.
