Sony RX100 V Wide Angle Options with Red Filter

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find a good option to expand the wide angle field of view on my RX100 V in a Sony housing (67mm threads). My budget is approximately US$500.

I have narrowed it down to two options:

1) Using a red filter behind a UWL H100

I am concerned that this will introduce significant vignetting and zooming in to remove the vignetting will reduce the wide angle effect. I am also not certain that the lens alone will significantly add to the field of view of the camera and the additional dome unit is currently out of my price range.

2) Using a red filter behind Fantasea Bigeye Mark 2 Dome

Various websites have quoted different potential fields of view using this setup up to apparently a 33% increase in FoV (https://www.housingcamera.com/blog/guides-tutorials/the-ultimate-guide-to-underwater-wet-lenses).

Will this dome correct the 24mm wide angle to its above water FoV of 85 degrees? This dome will also have significant vignetting at the wide angle.

Are there any other options that I have missed that meet the requirements?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Nauticam makes a wide angle dome similar to the Fantasea. The cost is not much higher. Look for the Wet Mate Dome Port.

Have you considered cutting a gel filter to fit over the camera lens directly? Look at Alex Mustard's Magic Filters.

They may also have a newer one for 67mm threads. I'm not sure.

Is the wide angle dome likely to correct the FoV to its above water equivalent of 85 degrees?

Thanks for the information about the lens filter. Is the H100 by itself enough of an increase to warrant the item? A subjective question, i know, but almost every video i have seen is of the H100 with the dome

The Kraken wet wide angle lens is on sale for $415 in bluewaterphotostore.com but not sure if applicable for your housing. It says its recommended for the SonyRX series. You can email them to be sure. It's not a zoom through lens, but the price point is quite attractive compared to other wet wide angle lens options.

Hope this helps.

Significant the bare port is unesable due to pincushion distortion and it becomes a poor 32mm the nauticam wet mate restores 24mm which is 84 degree diagonal the inon takes it to over 110 degrees this is more than you need for video

With a dome the only lens that takes a filter is the nauticam wwl-1 but is out of your budget

You can also cut a gel on the lens but you area stuck with it for the dive

Will the set down ring 67mm to 52mm effect the performance/usage of the Kraken KRL-02?
