clairegoodwin 0 Posted August 26, 2019 The pump for my aquatica sentinel system broke. I need to replace it but it wasn't very durable so I am looking for another pump that would be compatible with the system. Does anyone have any suggestions? Someone suggested a wine making one might work......Picture attached. Sorry not sure what the connection is called. pbalves 54 Posted August 26, 2019 That’s why I love Leak Sentinel system from Vivid Housing / Miso! Pretty simple. Easy to repair. Any pump do the effect. I have 2 Aquatica housings, but do not know in detail the Aquatica valve/pump system. Although I use the Surveyor system from Aquatica as electronics, I decided by the simple valve from Vivid Housing / Miso.
Interceptor121 842 Posted August 27, 2019 In the short term you can suck the air out with your mouth...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TimG 62 Posted August 27, 2019 The pump used by Vivid on the Sentinel is essentially the same as you'd get with a Vacu-vin wine-saving system. Very simple. Assuming the Aquatica one does no more than suck air out, you could try the Vacu-vin (it's cheap) pump. You'd need a piece of plastic tube and adaptors to link the Vacu-vin pump to the housing via the tube. Not too difficult to fabricate I wouldn't have thought. If it doesn't work, at least you won't have spent much - and you have acquired a way to keep your wine a bit longer. https://vacuvin.com/products/wine-saver/
ChrisRoss 150 Posted August 27, 2019 The Aquatica system seems to use a special connector between the pump and the valve on the housing. It also has the vacuum release on the pump not the valve, so connecting up to another pump will probably not solve the problem. The fitting on the housing body is a stop flow type quick connect, you need to insert the nipple from the valve to get any flow through it. You can tell this because they have placed the vacuum release on the pump body. Which part broke, assume it the little nipple on the end of the pump? it looks a little fragile. What is the material? It appears to be some type of quick connect coupling, the similar looking backscatter device is a swagelok fitting. Is there any branding on the fitting on your housing? If you can find out who makes the coupling you may be able to buy pieces to replace the broken part and improve the design somewhat, but otherwise you are probably stuck shelling out for a new pump. Don't know how long the pump you have lasted if the working life is short it may be worth switching to a different system - they all pricey unfortunately. If you can show us what broke and where we might be able to suggest something??
clairegoodwin 0 Posted August 27, 2019 Thanks all. It is actually the whole black end of the pump that has come off and I have now managed to lose that bit (was out on the boat with me but has vanished). The white and black parts fell apart very soon after I got the pump but i have been holding it together and making it work. I know that the backscatter pump does fit the housing connection (tried a friend's) so at least I know what connection it is now! I guess I need to bite the bullet and just buy another aquatica pump. Hope it stays together this time! Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
TimG 62 Posted August 27, 2019 Claire I don't know what that pump might cost - maybe not much - but if its pricey, it might be worth taking a look at a Vivid Sentinel vacuum system and switching over?
clairegoodwin 0 Posted August 27, 2019 Well I heard back from Aquatica today and they are going to send a replacement pump. Turns out there is a particular technique to pumping to depressurise so the breakage could have been user error - they have promised to send video instructions. Thanks Aquatica! ChrisRoss 150 Posted August 28, 2019 Hopefully the new pump will be better if not then, if the Backscatter fitting also works, then it's a swagelok fitting meaning you can rig something up with tubing and any old vacuum pump, you just need to find a supplier. They are an industrial fitting and it should be possible to get something made up in tubing to connect to something like the vacuum pumps you can get in auto stores and then connect an open ended fitting to break the vacuum when you need to. You can search for nearby suppliers here: https://www.swagelok.com/en/locate-a-sales-service-center
