clockdive 1 Posted May 10, 2020 Hello all, I just purchased some Inon z240 strobes and am excited to get back in the water. I upgraded from some old sea and sea strobes and currently have 2 sea and sea fiber optic cables. I am quite confused about the options for Inon fiber optic connections. Basically, can I take the cables I have and buy some kind of inon type L connector to make them work? Thanks!
Architeuthis 57 Posted May 10, 2020 Hi clockdive, Yes, you can continue to use your Sea&Sea cables. You need an adaptor like this one: https://fotografit.eu/products/65-flash-cables---accessories-and-adaptors/2408-inon-optical-cap-for-l-type-mounts/ Wolfgang
ChrisRoss 150 Posted May 10, 2020 Yes you can the trick is finding a stockist, this is the item: https://www.uwdigitalcamera.com/store/product.php?productid=16375&cat=271&page=1 I have ordered from this company before and they are good to deal with, postage may be slow with current situation limiting flights. Of you could enquire locally maybe at Reef photo. Or you can use an adapter : http://www.divervision.com/howshot-fiber-adapter-for-inon-strobes-FA-SS2IN4.html
clockdive 1 Posted May 11, 2020 Thanks for the help guys! I'll check those adapters out.
pbalves 20 Posted May 11, 2020 Hi Clockdive You need to check what is the version of your Z240. The optical sensor shape Type 4 is different from Type 1, 2 and 3. You need to buy the right adapter. For type 1 to 3: http://www.divervision.com/howshot-fiber-adapter-for-inon-strobe-older-slave-sensor-FA-SS2IN.html?search=inon adapter&category_id=64 For type 4: http://www.divervision.com/howshot-fiber-adapter-for-inon-strobes-FA-SS2IN4.html?search=inon adapter&category_id=64 On the label of the strobe it states which version it is. bvanant 146 Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) I think that the adapters for the old styles work fine for the T4, BUT the short version for T4 will not work on the older sensors where the sensors are physically longer You can also use the Kraken adapter if you can find them (Mine were special order from Kraken) Bill Edited May 11, 2020 by bvanant

ChrisRoss 150 Posted May 13, 2020 I have Type 4 and I use the earlier type adapter - it works fine. I found the later adapter very problematic for threading on and I believe it contributed to damage to the thread on the strobe, where the top thread peeled off. The type 4 adapter only engages a few threads which contributes to the problem. I solved the problem by sourcing the earlier adapter and converting my cables and the protective sensor cap to the new type.
Kraken de Mabini 65 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Or you can make your own fiber optic cable to Inon strobe adapter for a few pennies out of heat shrink tube. The Wetpixel post with instructions is here: https://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?/topic/60564-diy-fiber-optic-writeup-with-parts/page/2/&tab=comments#comment-413280 The adapter can be made of heat shrink, electrical insulation tube from the hardware store in a few minutes. I have used these adaptors for many dives with Inon D2000, Z240 types 1 to 4 and Z330 strobes. I carry a spare, just in case. Inexpensive, works perfectly, and easy to replace.
