Subal D70 Dual Synch sockets

Recommended Posts

Moving back to the original thread..... I've been told by a Subal distributor that with Dual Synch sockets you can't connect two non-TTL flashes only two i-TTL flashes or only one non-TTL Flash

Does anyone know if this is correct???

I'm not sure what your Subal distributor meant. I use the Subal D10 housing for Nikon's D100. It has 2 separate synch sockets. I use two older strobes with the housing, both on non-TTL. They work fine.

Maybe it is different with the D70 camera.

I've just heard directly from Subal, who confirmed what some of you already knew. The FS2 housing for the Fuji S2 cannot be retrofitted with the new optics - apparently the controls on the housing back don't leave enough room. Sad.

I suspect that in fact it is the other way round, ie. you can connect in the following ways:

i) two non-TTL flashes;

ii) only one i-TTL Flash; or

iii) one i-TTL capable Flash in non-i-TTL mode (A or M) plus one non-TTL flash.

This is the case on the Sealux housing anyway. The i-TTL port (for the housed SB-800 Speedlight) is wired for all pins whereas the non-TTL, Nikonos style port only uses two active pins. I currently use a traditionally wired Nikonos style (non-TTL) port which works with the Inon optical converter in either configurations ii) or iii) above. With the optical converter it is possible to run 2 Inon optical strobes (D180) off the single non-TTL port; three strobes in total on two ports. My point is that whether Sealux or Subal I strongly suspect that the pin configurations and wiring from hot shoe to port are similar and that only one strobe can operate in i-TTL mode.
