sandog 1 Posted September 2, 2020 Good afternoon. I am seeking some assistance. I just received in my YS-D3's (2 of them) and have them with a Nauticam NA-5DMKIV housing and has the UW Technics flash converter. The strobes will be connected through fiber optic cables. Here is my issue. I cannot get the strobes to fire. The camera is set to trigger a flash when a photo is taken. I can see the red led's of the flash converter send out the pulses. I can see the pulses output at the end of the fiberoptic cable. The led's are pulsing in red. I can trick my strobes into triggering with a flashlight but cannot get them to trigger when they are through the fiber optic. I have tried all three settings on the strobes with no luck. I am hoping it is something simple I am doing wrong as I would like to use the setup this weekend on a dive trip to Catalina. Thank you in advance. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
TimG 62 Posted September 2, 2020 Hey sandog Argh - how disappointing when you've just received all that new gear. I'm not a YS strobe expert and I'm sure others will chip-in. But if the camera is firing the flash initiator and you can see pulses at the ends of the fibre optic cable, then either the strobes are not seeing the pulses or the pulses are not strong enough to activate the strobes. If the issue is the latter, you might need to change your fibre optic cables. There has been a few cases on WP of folks having problems with strobe initiation with YSs and the problem being the type of cables being used. The YSs seems to need a particular fibre cable. But do check that the cables are attached correctly to the strobe and there is not a setting you need to switch to use fibre initiation rather than say, electric. sandog 1 Posted September 2, 2020 TimG you were right on the money! Is there anyway to convert normal TOSlink fiber cables for stereos into the connections needed for the camera? I have maybe 10 of those and I am learning that they work just great in transmission, but need to get them inserted. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
sandog 1 Posted September 2, 2020 Done. I took a toslink I had, cut the cable and then just used a little tape to thicken the ends, plugged right in and both strobes fired as planned. Thank you 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
