bella 0 Posted October 26, 2004 I'll be heading to SEAsia to dive in the next couple of weeks and will finish the trip with a week of relaxation in Sydney. The last time I was in sydney I was so exhausted that I didn't want to drag the scuba kit out again to dive but this time I'm determined. I'll be staying somewhere near the harbor and opera house. I'm especially interested in finding endemic species like the sea dragons and wobbiegongs but more importantly I want to be on a fun and friendly boat with a good crew. Any recommendations? KimInNB 0 Posted October 26, 2004 I dove one day in Sydney - went with Dive Bondi (in Bondi Beach) and they were great. Popped in on a few resting nurse sharks, saw wobbegongs, but no sea dragons. The price was reasonable (although I can't remember exactly what it was), the shop drove us to the boat in their van, and the boat gave us soup & crackers in between dives. That's hospitality. Dave H 0 Posted October 26, 2004 There are heaps of operators to choose from in Sydney. One of the best boats to dive off is Sealife V that is run by Prodive. The skipper is Phil who is an excellent operator. If you want to see Weedy Seadragons you can see them by doing a shore dive at Shelly Beach in Manly or Kurnell at soutn Sydney. What is the exact week that you are in Sydney? I'll check some of the boat schedules and see what diving is on. I'm down there from Nov 22-24 doing some seahorse surveys and tagging so might be able to take you for a dive?
AengusM 0 Posted October 27, 2004 Yes, several good boat operator's but if your after Weedy's shore dives are the go, as said, Shelley, Kurnell and Bare Island. Nelson Bay, where DaveH lives and works, is only a couple of hours north of Sydney and, in my opinion, is much better diving than Sydney, although no Weedy's up there. Most dives there are shories and tidal, so your forced to chill while the tide turns  So maybe consider going up to Nelson Bay (Port Stephens) for a couple of nights, its motorway most of the way, easy driving, and a beautiful area! http://www.daveharasti.com/nelsonbay/ http://www.visitnsw.com.au/ Cheers, Aengus
bella 0 Posted December 9, 2004 A warm thank you to everyone who replied to this post. Unfortunately, in the stress of preparing for the trip I forgot to check back for replies. Too bad about that because we sat one day with nothing to do at Manly! The 14 days previous to Sydney were an exhausting 4-5 dives per day. Next time though, deffinately next time! -julie
