EFLT 14 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) hello all, I have noticed that nauticam USA have raise their glass price again recently, I remember just a year ago the WACP was 3850$ retail, then it was raised to 4000$, 4500$, and now 4750$, and seems other glass dome also got a price raise, does anyone know is it simply just exchange rate/ tariff? at least the price of WACP/ glass dome on the Chinese side was staying the same compare to the US side. waterpixel 66 Posted December 8, 2020 The USD weakened vs other major currencies this year so if it was 100% made in the US, i would have expected its price to go down in these currencies rather than up.
adamhanlon 0 Posted December 8, 2020 My guess is that this is a tariff issue. The US government has imposed a 25% tariff on all goods imported from China. That seems to pretty much cover the price increase?

That seems to pretty much cover the price increase? If so, this new tax is even higher in Europe: 4740$ currently at Nauticam US and 4273 Euros (5172$ at the moment) at UWcamerastore (Netherlands)... waterpixel 66 Posted December 8, 2020 i've compared the price of my Nauticam housing and its accessories vs when i bought it 2 years ago and the price hasn't changed. Could it be just WACP related? I don't know as i haven't tracked its price over time. In any case, Tariffs only apply to imported steel and aluminium. Although aluminium is a big component in a housing, it isn't as much a critical part in terms of cost of goods sold for something as the WACP where a lot of its cost is in R&D and glass. @EFLTWe won't know unless Nauticam replies i guess

waterpixel 66 Posted December 8, 2020 I was talking about the Trump tariffs someone had alluded to earlier - they were setup throughout 18 and 19 (25% on steel imports, 10% on Aluminium) - in any case, i doubt it's this given other items price haven't increased. adamhanlon 0 Posted December 9, 2020 Quote On June 15, Donald Trump released a list of $34 billion of Chinese goods to face a 25% tariff, starting on July 6. Another list with $16 billion of Chinese goods was released, with an implementation date of August 23.[141] My understanding after chatting to US vendors is that these goods includes camera housings and accessories. Most EU states apply a VAT or sales tax to all imports, which in the Netherlands is 21%. There is also typically a duty payable too, but this tends to be relatively small of between 2-10% depending on the commodity code. Older housing were probably imported before the tariff increase, so the stock is already in the US and there are no retrospective duties payable.
