jejton 1 Posted November 15, 2021 I frequently use the M52 lens on my TG6 and realize it has to be burped to get rid of all air bubbles once I'm in the water. The thing is I'm always afraid I may drop it and lose or damage it. Can I burp and assemble the lens in the boat dunk tank (or the cooler I use as a dunk tank )? I do not believe so as the water will drain out when you move from the dunk tank to the exit of the boat. this will cause the need for another burp once you are in the water. Yeah, I thought the same thing. The water will drain out of the lens when you take it out of the rinse tank and you'll be back to square one. You have to burp it in-water. Unless you're on a wall dive, why not descend to the sea bed, get yourself sorted out, burp the lens - then away you go.......
JohnLiddiard 29 Posted November 15, 2021 I have lanyards attached to my wet lenses. I have never had to rely on them, but it does give peace of mind. Admittedly I have bayonet connectors, so lanyards are not as complicated. On a threaded connector either the lanyard needs to be longer or to slide round as the lense is screwed in/out. JS1221 0 Posted November 22, 2021 Backscatter makes a "No Burp" O ring that does exactly what you are looking for. The O ring goes between the housing and the lens and seal the water inside. This way you can burp your lens in the rinse tank and the water will stay there. I've used one with my Air Lens while on a liveaboard and and did not remove the lens for the entire week. Mark Don 1 Posted February 21, 2022 It’s quite easy to burp, but you can’t keep the lanyard on whilst you screw the lense on
Kraken de Mabini 168 Posted February 22, 2022 (edited) https://www.backscatter.com/Backscatter-M52-Underwater-0.50X-120-Wide-Angle-Wet-Lens Add a Split Shot O-ring This O-ring kit allows you to eliminate burping the UWL-M52 lens underwater on your TG camera housing. It allows you to pre-seal water from a rinse bucket and eliminates the need to unthread your UWL-M52 lens underwater to “burp” the lens. This O-ring also allows you to shoot split shots (over/under) with a wet lens on your TG housing. WannaDive 0 Posted April 19, 2022 Old thread, but I will say that I am always nervous about dropping the lens as well- But I will say, I recently purchased a trip video that was shot with a TG6 WITHOUT the lens burped... and it is quite noticeable in some of the video clips;.
