Bex 1 Posted December 1, 2019 (edited) Hello all, I'm new here, my name is Bex from Indonesia and I'm currently living in Australia. I've always been interested in underwater photography for years. Tho I have a very basic compact camera with additional lens and light, I made many of sharks videos and photos. Sharks are my spirit animals, so I always love to make videos of them purposely to change people's interpretation about sharks. I always want to upgrade my underwater camera that just in simple way(with additional fish-eye lens/wide angle lens + light) ,but create good quality videos and photos and affordable. I see you are all very professional, so I need your suggestions for these. Cheers, Bex Edited December 1, 2019 by Bex
JSB4 0 Posted December 1, 2019 Hello to all, My name is Jim Grady. I live in Southern California. I have been diving since 1979, and over the last several years taken up underwater photography. It has become a bit of a passion. I am currently shooting with a Nikon D7100 in a Sea&Sea housing. About three years ago, I started diving the SF2 CCR almost exclusively. I have been amazed at how it has allowed me to get closer to marine life, by not making so much noise. A friend of mine suggested that I check out Wetpixel as a great photography resource. I am looking forward to sharing ideas and learning more to improve my photography. Cheers

MS600 0 Posted December 2, 2019 Hi everyone, I'm Mike a Brit based in Singapore and taking advantage to being so close to all the great diving locations in Asia. I've recently changed career and become a professional photographer (on land). I first took a compact camera underwater 2 years ago and still have a lot to learn. Just migrated my land kit from Canon to Sony and looking forward to taking my A7RIV for it's first dive later this week. (if I can get the strobes to fire!!). scbadude 1 Posted December 7, 2019 Hi guys, First I would like to congratulate all new members that took less time than me to figure out how to post in here. It took me half a day searching through this site to figure out how to post lol. Anyway, my twin brother has been doing underwater photography for a few years now with a Nikon D800 and I've been extremely jealous of his pictures. I've been following him around on dives for the past 8 or so years with a gopro, then a Nikon J1, then a Panasonic LX10. I didn't want to spend the money on a big rig like my brothers D800. But now that Sony has been releasing these crazy full frame mirrorless cameras every other week causing the prices of the older cameras in their full frame series to drop, I'm taking the plunge. With the power of all my credit cards combined I'm now going all in and I am currently building my rig for the Sony A7rii. I'm really excited to learn from everyone on this forum and I love looking at everyone's pictures, even though they usually make me jealous.
DrHils 2 Posted December 9, 2019 Morning from Dubai everyone! I was just in Lembeh and spoke with a friend about selling my old camera set-up and he suggested that I look up this forum.... apparently I have been living under a rock - there is so much content here! Will definitely get into more of it, but as for me I'm a semi-retired instructor, been diving since 1998 and love all things under the water (especially if they are tiny and adorable). I am thinking that I will get "sucked down the internet rabbit hole" here with all of the chatter, but can't be a bad thing. Now to process over 2000 pics from my trip! Looking forward to participating.
cfults 1 Posted December 9, 2019 hello my names Cory. Lucky enough to spend most my days in the water off the Kona coast on the big island of Hawaii. Most all the diving I do is Freediving and I spend most my time offshore. Cheers!

Moodog 0 Posted December 21, 2019 Hi All, My name is Rich from Baltimore, Md USA. Been diving for over 20 Years on and off, Above water photography for well.. since film was our only option haha. Switched to Digital when the Nikon D100 came out. Over the last 5 years my interest or want to get camera underwater has really grown, GoPro then I purchased the Sea Life DC2000 with strobes a few years ago for compactness and travel and just have not been very happy with it. Ive gotten decent images considering but its just not my camera. I recently got the "bug" to get my current camera underwater. I shoot a D850 and Z7 and for my shooting style I hardly grab my D850 anymore so I made the plunge to get my Z7 underwater. originally thinking Id save a little size but I realized that was just not gonna happen haha. Still working on my kit set up but so far im With Z7 in Nauticam housing, Ported Nikon Fish Eye, Ultralight arms already purchsed and Im pretty sure Ill go with Inons Z330's. I still got some time before any trips so Im keeping my eye on the reviews of the new Sea & Sea as well. I have a internal debate on going with a 60 Micro with the wet lens, but Ill probably make that decision after a few dives. Anyway..... WetPixel has been a huge resource and Im glad to have found and joined these forums. Thanks to all the members that post for indirectly helping me haha and Ill do my best to give back as my knowledge grows here.
TimG 62 Posted December 21, 2019 Hey Rich Welcome to Wetoixel. We hope you find it a great resource. I thought I’d chip-in on your macro lens thinking. it’d be well worth you searching on WP for views on a 60mm micro lens on an FX camera. It’s been discussed quite a bit and the merits of the 105 mm v 60.mm. Well worth a read before you invest. A lot of FXers question whether a 60mm is worth it on FX
Moodog 0 Posted December 21, 2019 Thanks Tim, yeah my only reason being the use of the Wet Wide... my logic has me at this would be great in theory but not sure in practice if I would be happy with that set up... verse the fisheye and like you said just having the 105 and coordinating dives with Ports. I have a lot of interest in Bug Eye as well, and when I go macro I might just go in to that realm.

Pangeagirl 1 Posted December 26, 2019 Hello Wetpixel community! The first time I dove (after getting certified) I took a camera with me. My photography equipment remains unsophisticated, but I feel like a crucial part of my gear is missing if I don't have my camera with me. I now spend more hours on Lightroom than playing solitaire ...to me that's a good thing 'cause every fish, coral, sponge, algea and wee beastie I peer at helps me remember my dives and also works my grey matter over. i joined Wetpixel because, every now and then, I come across something that I cannot identify, nor even guess at. So the majority of my posts will likely be in the Critter Identification Forum.
Valtman 2 Posted December 29, 2019 Hello everybody! My name is Valtteri, I'm from Finland but luckily leaving to South East Asia again in about a week. I've been diving for a few years now, but as it is freaking cold here and I haven't had the money to buy a dry suit - or any scuba gear of my own - yet, I've been diving while traveling. My go to destination has been and probably will be Koh Tao in the gulf of Thailand. I've grown to hate the place as much as I love it and if there were another place where I could get the courses done in my native language even close to the prices on that island I wouldn't find myself there almost every year. I've always felt the most safe and comfortable diving with Koh Tao Divers, which I can't say about all the dive centers I've dove with. Finnish people speak relatively good English - some might do Swedish too - so highly recommended for all. I don't do one or two week vacations - it's between one to four months for me - and to do that I cannot be tied to a full time job. Thus my yearly income is quite low, thus my budget for gear is quite low as I try to prefer eating over shiny things. I have a Sony A6000 and I'm pretty sure sticking with the series. Last year I bought the Meikon fixed port housing and I actually got a few almost decent shots on the very first dives with the camera in Komodo national park in Indonesia (amazing place, skip the lizard, go for the dives). At that time I realized I know nothing about underwater photography - you really do need a light source, a faster lens only gives you more blur. I still don't have that light and for this coming trip I'm stuck with the kit zoom underwater, but I'm going to start building something a little more serious around the camera. And that's why I'm here - to ask all the stupid questions! Here's the few almost decent shots that I got. Heavily Photoshopped to hide the flaws. 1. Green turtle, Sony A6000 + 16-50 mm @ 50 mm - f/5,6 - 1/80 sec 2. The same green turtle, 17 mm - f/4,5 - 1/125 sec 3. White tip reef shark from above, 16 mm - f/4,5 - 1/80 sec 4. Manta ray, 16 mm - f/4,5 - 1/250 sec Sorry for a long post, thank you in advance for bearing with me and my stupid questions. Valtteri
