My name is Dale and I have been diving since 1983, with well over 3000 dives  but recently have decided to end my diving for personal reasons.  Diving PNW, Caribbean, Asia and numerous other places in and out of the US.  I have sold a lot of my dive gear so far and plan to list my Photo set up soon.

I still enjoy keeping up on what is going on in diving and looking at everyone's pictures

Hello!

My name is Claudia and I'm a PADI Scuba diver and AIDA freediver, I just moved from the UK to Italy.

I'm mostly interested in underwater videography for commercial, short films, and documentary. I'm looking forward to gaining a lot more knowledge about it.

Otherwise, I work as filmmaker on dry land. Would love to start posting my work so far on here if anyone is interested!

Hi everyone,

I’m Kory! I just moved from the north down to Texas, so I’m super excited to dive more than 3 months out of the year. I do a lot of photography on land, and hoping to get my feet wet in underwater photography (pun intended). I love shooting film- so if you have old film stuff please let me know!

I look forward to laughing and learning with you all!

Kory

Aloha everyone,

My name is Taj and I'm from Hawaii. I've been shooting for a few years now and I still have lots to learn. I shoot both photo and video and I love to use my work to inspire others. I have a series of short cinematic video episodes I call "Reflections of Hope".  This series is shot all over the world and teaches important life lessons through nature. Here are a few episodes I shot underwater:

Tiger Sharks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqo5xi91pdo&list=PLYtiLTK7IJ5bqQlm_inufThRp5P8rXQWw&index=23&t=5s

Manta Rays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9DErKaEJ0g&list=PLYtiLTK7IJ5bqQlm_inufThRp5P8rXQWw&index=13

Scuba Diving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvQsmuAmKTc&list=PLYtiLTK7IJ5bqQlm_inufThRp5P8rXQWw&index=12&t=61s

This is my passion and my ministry. I shoot with the Canon 5D Mark4 in the Nauticam housing. My favorite places that I've had the privilege of diving are Palau, Komodo Islands, Guadalupe, Galapagos, Tonga, Tiger Beach, among others. I look forward to connecting and learning from others here on Wetpixel.

Blessings,
Taj

Hey everyone! New to the forum but I’ve been a wildlife photographer for some time. Decided 2 years ago to start incorporating diving with photography. I don’t get out as much as I would like to but my most recent trip was in Thailand where I got lucky enough to get some great clown fish shots! I’ll post them once I get near a computer that has them saved. I look forward to reading tips/techniques to make me a better diver and photographer.

Greetings all,

I'm Paul Rooney, living in Sydney, Australia the past 15 years though I was born in Boston and lived, mostly, in eastern Massachusetts with a couple of attempts at Florida and one disastrous foray into living in Texas (great place, great people, I was just unprepared for it at the time). :)

I'm an avid diver, former PADI instructor and keen underwater photographer, though my camera gear and photo skills, tbh, are a bit on the weak side.

I'm here, mostly, to learn, and hope to pickup a used U/W camera rig.

I also post images from time to time on the wetpixel FB group and drool over the photos taken with gear I can't really afford.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi everybody,

I'm glad to join the Wetpixel community.

I am a wildlife cinematographer. I started diving at 12 before discovering freediving, and finally becoming a rebreather diver allowing me to spend hours underwater without bubbles.

Always passionate about the complexity and richness of marine ecosystems, I first studied marine biology and worked on coral fish larvae in Polynesia, before becoming, over the years, an underwater cinematographer and a wildlife film director.

I started with an independant movie following friends in Alaska, freedivers and photographers too. We were looking to swim with salmon sharks (extract here).

After this first amazing experience, I worked for several nice project like 700 sharks into the night or Under The Pole. I am interested about averythink about video, always trying new rig or adapt some ideas underwater.

On the field, I love feeling all my senses awakening and be torn between the feeling of fear and excitement that come from these intense animal encounters. I aims to melt with the environment, observe without disturbing, to better understand wild behaviours and capture these moments through my camera.

I am specialised in wildlife, you could have an idea of my footage here : Showreel 2020

Happy to learn and share some tips with you on the forum.

Hi.  I'm Katharine.  I live in Alaska and do most of my diving in the Gulf of Alaska and the Arctic.  I am a fisheries oceanographer by training and most of my diving is work related.  I also use independently deployed video and still cameras for research on fish and invertebrates.  I'm always looking for new equipment and techniques to improve my photography, and this looked like an interesting place to be.

Hello,

We are both dive instructors with over 28 years experience between us.

Now that we have all this spare time out of teaching we want to learn more about underwater photography and how to use our DSLR setup (which has mostly stayed at home when we worked overseas as it weighs too much!). Either that or we will sell it! Haha

Thanks!

Hello from Boulder Colorado.

I am an ex-training director, but still current diver/freediver photographer whenever I can find my way to the ocean.

I have been a wetpixel member for about a year but this is my first pots as I am looking to sell my housing, the body was recently stolen so I am grading.

Hi everyone,

I'm a newly qualified dive instructor currently in Indonesia.

I have always been interested in photography on land and would like to start venturing into the underwater side of photography.

Currently I don't have a set up but am looking. It would need to be something I can use both underwater and on land to try and save in duplicating systems.

Thanks all

Joel

Hi Joel,

If your looking at a syatem to use above and below water, I would suggest Subal housing and say a good Nikon camera. The one nuisance with these housings is that if you change camera then the housing will also need to be changed. I found the best solution to this was to invest in the best camera possible. In my case I bought the Nikon D700 (professional camera and Dx/Fx) now despite its age now, its still very sought after. I bought mine when it was introduced so spent £3000.00 body only! I use the Subal D70 housing with it and the combination still gives me top notch results. There are other housings and combinations so it really depends on you and your potential budget.

Hope that helps

Greg

Hi all

Apologies for not introducing myself sooner, I'm an extraordinarily busy woman!

I've dabbled in u/w photography - mainly videography and got more into it as necessity through my work with Ghost Fishing UK where I'm a trustee and instructor.

This year my cave diving (which is my primary goal for buying my DSLR and housing) has taken a hit due to covid, so I decided to start trying out my macro lens as a macro port came with the housing.

I've had an absolute ball this year shore diving and photographing critters and I was enjoying it so much I went on an Alex Mustard workshop right up at Kinlochbervie.

You won't hear much from me as I work offshore as a dive medic, run my own business when I'm at home, still have a Paramedic NHS bank contract and run a charity!

I do lots of other stuff too, so I'll try my best to contribute although as a relative newbie I doubt I'll have much to give at this stage, but I promise to try..

Christine

Howdy - I'm reviving my love for diving and adding UW photography to the mix. Looking to glean advice from more experienced folks to up my game. I'm in Montana, near Glacier National Park so a dry suit is pretty necessary around here. I'll be on the hunt to buy a used dry suit for petite female soon. Thanks in advance for the input to improve my UW skills.  Cheers!  Shannon
