Hello

I'm Jonathan Gardner from the Pacific Northwest of the United States. I am a Landscape and Wildlife Photographer, and diver of course. My current underwater rig is the Sony a6400 with the 16/f2.8 in a Nauticam housing. Above the water I use the Sony a1 and Sony a7RIV and hope to get them into the water this year.

You can find my images on my site.

Aloha,

I am Elijah Aasand From Hawaii. I have been learning about photography (especially underwater) for about a year and a half now. I am a competitive freediver so I take most of my photos while holding my breath. Currently I am using a Canon 5d Mark III and 8-15mm lens. My housing is a Nauticam NA-5DSR with the 8.5 inch acrylic dome. I am excited to learn and contribute to this community.

Not sure you are asking me, but my website is www.juliefinley.photography.  Not many new pictures, as I don't dive local cold water and haven't travelled since Covid shutdown.

Hello,

I love diving and UW photo. I do it as often as I can, which is never enough. My images are ok - so I appreciate any advice.. thank you

Hi, Melinda:

Part of good underwater photos is equipment and strobes, but also the usual instruction to get close, then get closer. You can only sync to most strobes at 1/250, so to get good depth and clarity you need f6 or more, then set your ISO on auto, with upper and lower limits set within your camera's recommended settings.  Only other way is to shoot auto with strobes set on TTL.  I noticed you are in Los Angeles.  If you are near Blue Water Photo, they have great classes and, if too far away for in person, lots of online info.

Good luck and happy diving!

Hello, Gareth:  I'm not sure i can help, as I am not familiar with the Canon WP-DC52 or its housing.  You might contact Bluewater Photo in Los Angeles, CA.  As to strobes, I have been using an Olympus EM-5 with two Sea & Sea D-1 strobes.  I am currently upgrading to an Olympus Em-1 Mark II in a Nauticam housing, and to Sea & Sea D-3 strobes.  The strobe upgrade is for power and to eliminate hotspots.  Also for use of the dome diffuser.  The best results are on my website at www.juiefinley.photography.  I hope I am not violating wetpixel rules by naming my website.

Hi everyone,

I’m a relatively beginner in both diving and UW photo/video.

Dive mostly on Maui, currently use Canon R5 in Nauticam housing.

Got to introduce myself the Gremlins said.  Not entirely sure how - think I just posted a blank post, but don't know.

So, for what it's worth: Old geezer, diving ecologist, been taking digital underwater photos and videos for years but do it to record species and habitats, not for 'art'.  Dive in UK only (went to El Cabron once and was sadly disappointed) so usually work in sub-10m viz. Looking to learn stuff about how to take reliably competent pics in crap conditions...

Hi,

Xavier, divemaster that after a few years or horrible pictures with a 30$ action camera graduated to taking horrible pictures with an old sony cybershot.

And, during the lockdown got a second hand canon 600d and ikelite and strobe and so many things that are taking half of my luggage ... and I'm thrilled to wet them for the first time in the red sea next week

Thought I'd join after the site being mentioned in Alex Mustards book.

UK Diver.

Been using GoPro to create some videos so far (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdJTf9dZkR4usidB25Qfp1Q) and I'm a hobby photographer on the surface.

Looking to start getting stills underwater - starting off with Nikon D80 with Aquatica housing (still need to sort out strobes, arms etc.), has a 50mm lens which as a test worked out OK, but have ordered a 40mm Macro to be able to get closer to subjects.

If anyone has any tips on this set up, much appreciated.

Hi all! I am new to Wetpixel but not so new to the under water world and photographing of the same. Have been diving for 14 years now.
I use a FIX G12 housing for my Canon G12 camera and really prefer video over still photography. I desperately need a Fisheye FIX 67 mm Adapter for my housing for better still shots but it is discontinued. I would like to find one out there that I could buy if you have one sitting around not being used. Just let me know.
Thanks for letting me join this group! I look forward to seeing and learning from everyone.

Hi Eskay

Welcome to Wetpixel. We hop you find the forum as useful as we have done over the years. There is a huge amount of knowledge within the membership that people share very freely.

As not everyone reads the New Members Intro posts, you might be better adding a post to the Classifieds saying you are looking for that FIX adaptor.

You need to make a couple more posts before you can post on the Classifieds (a Wetpixel policy to try and deter people just joining to sell their gear)

Best wishes

Thanks for that information. I saw the requirement of 3 posts. So will try to make a couple more posts first.
