Hello all,

My name is Mike and I hail from Minnesota, land of Prince and 10,000 (cold and often murky) lakes. I prefer diving on coral reefs! My current setup is a Sony RX100II in a Nauticam housing with Inon Z330 strobes and Inon wet lenses. (And a top-mounted GoPro for the video "stuff".) Shutter/focus lag and slow flash recharge time have me strongly considering micro 4/3, most likely Olympus E-M5III...

Lots of helpful and knowledgeable people here whose postings have really helped me along in U/W photography. Excited to be part of the community : )

Hi! I couldn't log in to my old account (forget password link doesn't show up in my emails for some reason) so made a new account. I joined about 2 years ago pre-covid and made a couple of trips w my Nikon D7500, and have now recently upgraded to a Sony A7C. This forum has been very helpful in my gear selection and look forward to learning more. Luckily I'm based in Singapore now with easy access to Indo Pacific diving.

Hi all, I'm Shane, a New Zealand based diver and underwater photographer. I'm currently shooting with a Sony rx100-va, wwl-c and a pair of Inon D200's. Love this setup for wide-angle in particular. You can see some of my images at https://www.shanesmith.photos/ .

Looking forward to learning from the community and sharing some ideas.

Cheers,
Shane

Hi. I’m Svati from Chicago! I’ve been a certified diver since 1999. I’m one of a few South Asian American female divers. My notable dive trips include Palau, Socorro, & Rotan. I’ve dove all over the Caribbean. I started underwater photography in 2014. I’m an avid photographer both above and underwater water. I joined Wetpixel to learn from a group of divers who love underwater photography. I currently use a Coolpix W300 and a Canon EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR + Ikelite housing as my underwater gear. I am planning a trip to the Red Sea and would love suggestions on liveaboards and itineraries. Look forward to interacting with everyone

Hi Svati, welcome!  The Red Sea offers excellent diving but  gets much pressure throughout the Egyptian coastline.  The further south you travel, the less overall pressure from day boats and liveaboards.  I have done the Red Sea Aggressor for both their northern route and Southern route (7 day charters) out of Marsa Alam which is at the southern end of Egypt.  I am currently booked to dive the new Red Sea Aggressor RE for South Sudan (14 day charter) this May.  It too leaves from Marsa Alam.  Anyway, the Aggressor fleet boats are excellent and the diving is great.  Just go to the Aggressor website to check things out.  They have staff to help you with airlines and transfers as well.  I could not find a good flight to Marsa Alam from my upcoming trip but the staff at Aggressor set me up within a day with a great set of flights for a good price point.

Hi Svati. Another recommendation for you: Emperor Divers out of Marsa Alam on their St John and the Furys trip. I’ve done it twice. Brilliant!

Hi,

Richard here from New Zealand, lurking as a visitor to Wetpixel for some time. A seasoned diver who has dabbled with underwater photography starting out with a Nikonos IVA which is still around somewhere gathering dust.  2006 I got back into it with an Olympus SP-350 and an INON D2000 flash before a Gopro 4 in 2013 rekindled the passion resulting in an Olympus TG4 in 2017 with Weefine 3000 ringlight and the Inon. Splashed out last year with a Sony A7C and 28-60mm lens, Nauticam housing, WWL-1B, CMC-1, CMC-2 and a new INON Z330 to compliment the aging D2000. I did a lot of supermacro with the TG4 and finding that the 28-60mm + CMC-1/2 not up to capturing the 3-4mm nudis (even stacking the CMC-1 and 2)  so may need to 'invest' in Sony 90mm and SMC-1 or 2 or shoot the A7C in APS-C mode with CMC-1 or 2. I have followed @Phil Rudin and appreciate reviews and advice on Sony A7C - many thanks!

Hi - MarkF here on the Big Island of Hawaii. Spend most of my time freediving off the local reef, off the paddle board or kayak. Between Dec and March the focus is on whale watching where we have been blessed with some awesome experiences. We also do some scuba both from boats and shore.

I am relatively new to underwater photography have used combinations of GoPro, Waterproof compact, and my old Nikon DSLR with an Outex rubber housing. Just bought a Sony FF mirrorless camera and am looking to get that set up with a housing and looking at the forum for some help with that.

Greetings!   Clifton here from Flagstaff, Arizona.   I started shooting images underwater several years ago, buying my first system through a classified ad on this site.  Since then I have taken several workshops and have slowly upgraded my gear.  Currently shooting with Canon 5D MIII and Aquatica setup ... mostly wide angle but learning the ropes with macro.  I love underwater photography, which presents some logistics for someone who currently resides in a mountain community far from any ocean!

I look forward to being active on this site.  I have been a member since 2013 but have not been participating for some time.

Frequent dive spots include southern Belize, Bonaire, and Cayman.  We will be in Philippines this summer for the first time, and are also looking forward to enjoying some liveaboard trips that were rescheduled during the pandemic.  Looking forward to the posts, and seeing this fun pastime taken to a higher level.

Cheers!

 Clifton

Welcome to Wetpixel!

It is the most vibrant, knowledgeable and helpful underwater imaging community in the world. This is largely because the members of the community selflessly share their experience and skill. Please try to contribute yours too.

Please use this topic to write a short introduction to the community.

Once you have done so, this will unlock the ability to create your own topics in almost all the other forums.

The exception is the Classifieds, which is open to members that have contributed at least 3 posts in any other forums (your post in this topic counts as one of these)

We look forward to your posts!

WannaDive here, saying "Hello" to the WetPixel community.  I'm an amateur photographer on land, and have been shooting underwater with a TG5 (mainly macro), for the past 2 years.  I an located in Florida, and definitely do not dive as much as I should!

Looking forward to continued learning!

Hello I am Bob.  I have been a scubadiver and underwater photographer for 12 years now.  I joined this forum to learn new things about underwater photography.  I shoot the Olympus OMD-EM1 MarkII.  I am waiting for my OM Systems OM-1 so I can try it underwater.

Hi, I'm Martin from Germany and happy to be here not only as reader but now as real member.

I had SaltedLine with A6400, but not happy with the 16-50 and the suboptimal operation of the cam - so I switched to RX100VA and Isotta.

Maledives (Fuvamulah and Tigers just 4 weeks ago) and Marsa Alam are our favorite spots... maybe this year to Mo'orea...

Great forum where the photographers are, not the "deeper is better"-divers. Thanks a lot!

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away when Fuji Velvia ruled the universe - I taught uwphoto for Cathy Church and then on the Aggressor Fleet.  At some stage I decided that I needed to get a real job and became an engineer... which then funded a Canon 7D in a Nauticam housing with some strobes and stuff.

Unfortunately life has gotten in the way for the last ten years, but in June I'm off on a diving holiday and I've just pulled out the said 7D and housing etc and am starting to try to work out how it all goes together... fark!  This could be interesting... expect lots of dumb questions you lot!

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster...

My main set-up is a Canon 5D IV in a Sea & Sea housing with two Sea & Sea YS-D2 strobes. I also do some tide pooling with an Olympus TG-6 and occasionally shoot video using a GoPro.

I have been SCUBA certified for nearly 30 years but only recently (2018) actually started diving regularly, mostly in the Southern California area.

Hi everyone. I was looking to upgrade my A6300 to an A1 and realized that wetpixel has much more to offer than at first glance - not just for gear, but for other discussions - which is why I joined. I'm in the Philippines so have some great diving nearby.
