Everybody seems so helpful and willing to share! It’s beyond complicated to fully understand everything but I can’t wait to get my first photos!

Hello!

Based in Northern California - I very much enjoy diving locally in the wonderful Monterey Bay - often with my UW camera. Focusing often on Macro/Snoot photography, bc the visibility is often challenging. Have enjoyed this forum (passively) very much - super helpful with the many question one has!

Hi everyone. Thanks for having me.

I used to do a lot of recreational diving and u/w photography (Nikon F90 / Nexus Housing / 2xSubtronic alpha strobes), but fatherhood has somewhat cramped my diving style. Switched to a smaller Canon S90 rig with single Inon strobe: much easier on the excess baggage, for what are now only occasional forays beneath the waves (though I do miss the cf/wa shots).

The lad is now 9 ... so in a few years I'll strap a tank on him, and hopefully we can start to enjoy the sport together.

Hello everyone!  Didn't dive from 2008 until going to the Maldives last month (standard raising a kid stuff).  I initially made an account to ask some questions about my old rig (Fuji 810 in an Ikelight housing) but...it leaked like a sieve when I tried it out so plans changed!

I've put together a new rig for St. Croix in August based on a WP-N3 Nikon 1 housing and a J4 with the 10-30mm and 18.5 lenses.  I plan to use my D-2000 and Ikelight handle with that new setup and maybe my UCL-165 Inon macro lens if I can find an AD-M63 adapter for it.  Looking forward to getting back into it.

Hi my name is Robyn and I live in Massachusetts. I learned to scuba dive when I was in Australia as an exchange student in 1986 so basically I learned on the Great Barrier Reef! I have been teaching about photography since 2001 on land and then in 2008 bought my first underwater housing system and have enjoyed taking pictures underwater and seeing so many of the fish and other marine creatures that were in aquariums at my fathers pet store! Here is me in the Maldives!

My name is Matt Chamberlin and I'm from Atlanta.  I've been diving for over 40 years and into serious underwater photography for the last 3-4.  I've got both a TG-6 setup and Aquatica Full Frame setup for my Canon 5D Mark II.  I've been photography Belize, the Bahamas and Grand Cayman lately and getting amazing instruction from Lisa Collins in Grand Cayman.  My next interest is UW Cinema Video and in particular the Red Komodo Camera and look forward to reading about it in this forum.

 

I've joined Wetpixel to learn, research and have fun.

American photographer Todd Essick Is considered one of the pioneers of underwater fine art photography, Todd Essick was one of the first underwater photographers to bring models and animals together in the ocean with a clear artistic vision of creating a true bridge between art and nature. 

He first became enchanted with the sea as a child during a family vacation in South Florida. After moving to Florida, he attended art school. During his final semester, an interest in photojournalism was sparked by an internship with the Miami Herald. 

Working as a professional freelance photojournalist out of Miami, for the better part of a decade, he covered daily news, sports and special interest stories, including drug and refugee interdiction in the Caribbean, riots in Miami, civil war in Central America and the Olympics. He has tackled some of the most intense and challenging assignments possible, primarily while freelancing for the Associated Press. 

A diving career spanning 40 years and making thousands of dives, Todd Essick nurtured his love of the sea and the connection we all have with it. His vision, to share this with everyone, has become his continuing underwater fine art photographic project; Goddesses, Sirens and Mermaids. 

His award winning underwater fine art photography has been published around the world and collected in his book Beginnings Goddesses, Sirens and Mermaids. Many collectors prize his limited edition photographs. Of many career highlights, Unterwasser Magazine in Germany naming Mr. Essick one of the top ten underwater photographers in the world and Mr. Essick being invited as a guest photographer for Germany’s Next Top Model with Heidi Klum, at the time one of highest rated show in Germany, are two of his favorites. 

His on going study of women interacting with animals underwater continues with works that have included sharks in the Bahamas, and Jellyfish in Palau. 

During the pandemic Mr. Essick is spending time in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Its rich culture and warm people have been in his heart since his first international dive trip to Cozumel. After coming to Mexico to work on new photographs the coronavirus arrived and became his focus to help those in need. He is involved with cooking and feeding  families through a church soup kitchen and making food packages for the many experiencing food insecurity.

Hi, I'm Howard. I live in Sacramento, CA. I became a certified diver in 1982 in order to photograph underwater. Over the course of forty years I've upgraded my photo system. many times. Most recently, I bought a new Nauticam housing for Olympus OM 1-Mk II with three lenses and 2 Inon. Z240 strobes just before the pandemic hit and used it once.  I unfortunately am no longer able to dive and hope to pass on my UW photography system at a great price to someone who will put it to good use.

Hi, I’m Catherine. I’m British but have lived in Australia for about 12 years. I’m a keen diver but I didn’t dive much during Covid due to travel restrictions. I’m getting back into diving and photography again now. I’m currently using a canon DSLR with a Nauticam housing, having a few problems which is one reason I registered. I’m also starting to think about what gear I may be using in 3-4 years time.

I am a UK freediver/snorkeller who loves being in and amongst the kelp. I previously had a Canon compact in Fantasea housing which served me well, but am now looking to get a housing for my full frame Sony camera. I think it's fair to say I've fallen down the rabbit hole, so have joined Wetpixel to see if I can get some advice!

Hello members - I'm Michael Brogan from Seattle, WA. I've been diving since the mid-80s and have enjoyed UW photography at various points along the way. Originally with a Nikonos IVA, then much later a switch to digital with an Olympus C-5060. I shot with a Nikon D80 and Ikelite gear for a while and currently have an Olympus TG-6, with dual S&S DS-Y2J strobes and a Kraken wide-angle wet lens. I recently got back from 2 weeks in the Philippines, my first trip to that part of the world. Incredible! I'm thinking about updating my photo rig to something more capable than my TG-6. I'll be reading the forums for ideas and checking classified for good used gear. Cheers!
