Hi all,

I'm Frank from Germany.

Even before I started diving several years ago, photography was a great passion of mine. So it was not surprising that I quickly became interested in underwater photography.

A few years ago, i realised that photos alone were no longer enough for me and that i was more interested in videography. I am constantly trying to develop further in this area.

No doubt!  Before I I started taking underwater photos, I was using a Canon A-1 film model.  I still have it (not sure what I'll do with it?).  Same thing happened when I started to shoot underwater.  Started out with a Sea & Sea film camera.  When I went digital, it opened a whole new world!  Shoot, shoot, shoot

Hi everyone! I'm Rachel from Auburn, AL. Been diving for almost 20 years and been an OW instructor for more than half of that time. I started UW photography in 2009 at 21 years old when my dad lent me his underwater camera rig for a Blackbeard's trip. Needless to say, I was hooked! I've followed this forum for a long time, and just now getting around to becoming a member. For the last 3 years, motherhood has caused my diving and shooting to take a backseat, but I'm back at it and glad to finally be a part of this community!

My current rigs are a 7Dmk2 and an R5, both in Nauticam housings with duel Sea & Sea strobes.

Cheers!

Hej,

my name is Jens and I am from Germany. I started diving 10 years ago. I love diving caves and wrecks.
A few years ago I started using a Canon G1X II for underwater photography.
Since this setup is only usable to 40m I now decided to get deeper into underwater photography and bough a new camera (Sony A7IV) and a Nauticam setup with a WWL. Want to use it for deep wreck diving and maybe later on in caves. I usually like the ambient light, so for now I will use it without strobes, but from time to time some external LED lights, which my buddy needs to bring in position ;-)

I now need to learn using the new setup :)

Thanks,
Jens

Hi All,

I'm new to this page, but did a lot of diving and worked as a divemaster in the 90s.  I taught UW Photo back in the film days and have been shooting digital topside forever, but I'm excited to move into the digital underwater space.  Since the 90s, I've raised kids and done graduate work and am now circling back to doing some dive trips, including booking my first trip to Indonesia for 2025.  Currently based in Denver.  Hope to see some of you out there!

Hello,

I am new to this community so here's my introduction :-).

I learned to dive in the Philippines in the early 80s and then moved to San Francisco and tried Monterey diving but found it to be too cold.  However,  I gave it another try in 2015 this time diving with a dry suit and I haven't looked back!  I mostly dive the Caribbean in Mexico as I spend half my time living in the Riviera Maya so Cozumel is sort of my back yard.  When I get a chance, I dive and enjoy the kelp forests (they are slowly coming back) of Monterey and the variety of the Channel islands.

I got into underwater photography during a Backscatter shootout event in 2015 where all the other divers had these impressive looking rigs and I got curious and started with a Canon point and shoot.  I never looked back and today, I enjoy both macro and wide-angle photography and aim to educate my friends about the wonders of the ocean and the importance of preserving them for generations to come.

I am actively sharing my photos via my blog at glcodeworks.com/blog

Let me know what you think about my blog, would love to hear your thoughts.

Regards,

Generosa Litton

Hey everyone!

I’m Niko, and I have been lurking the forums for a little while now. I just got my Open Water certification since I just moved to an island from the middle of the US (big upgrade), so the beauty of the underwater world has me smitten and yearning for more.

I originally got into diving specifically for the underwater photography aspects, and I am an avid photography-obsessor topside, and especially love strobes and soft lighting. I want to get into CFWA, general wide angle, and UW portraiture. Perhaps dabble in macro, but mainly for nudibranches and abstract patterns.

Hoping to get my scuba skills down and honed quickly so I can start bringing my love for photography down into the depths.

Super appreciative of the community here, and hope to contribute to the forum over time.

Cheers!

Hello, my name is Greg. I love diving and photography and unfortunately don't get to do either as much as I would like any more. I have a few thousand dives under my belt, I stopped keeping track long ago. I have been diving all over the world and use to work as a Dive Master in Thailand, and Australia. I look forward to being a contributor to this forum.

Hi,

I'm Eric, a diver and aspiring underwater photographer currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area, though I plan on moving back home to Toronto next summer.

I started diving in 2018 and have logged around 200 dives in the 5 years since then (though I did pause for about a year and a half in the middle due to COVID). I got into underwater photography after my first year and have been hooked ever since.

All of my learning thus far has come from reading books and watching videos, but I'm hoping to join some underwater photography workshops in the future to learn more, particularly to work on improving my wide-angle and supermacro photography.

I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D850 with a pair of Ikelite DS230 strobes, as well as a Backscatter MF-1 for snoot photography. Attached below is probably the most technically challenging shot I've managed so far, of an arrow crab in the Cayman Islands.

Hello!

My name is Gregory McGrath, a dive instructor and UW Photography enthusiast. I live and dive on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, and also in Barrio Barretto, Philippines at Subic Bay. I ran a dive shop here on Cape Cod for 20 years, and am happy to share any advice of information I may have on diving in either of my homes!

Hey everyone! I've been lurking on this forum for a while so I figured it was time to introduce myself. I'm Conner, currently living in Washington DC. I first went diving roughly 16 years ago, but didn't start doing it seriously until the past 4-ish years or so. I primarily have dove in the carribean, but have some upcoming travel planned to Raja Ampat for a few weeks. I mostly am a hobbiest underwater photographer.

Hello all!  Clay signing on from Idaho.  Yeah I know, not much diving to be had up here in the Sawtooth Mtns, unless you consider 2' visability in a mountain lake your kind of muck diving.  I'm excited to re-join this community, I sold my Nikonos V and SB103 when my daughter was born and haven't been able to get much diving in, let alone UW photography, since then.  Well, the kid is through college and paying her own way so it's time to get back to what I loved to do.  Ex UW photgrapher, Ex PADI instructor, Ex Yucatan cave diver, Ex deep technical diver - time to erase some of those Ex's!  Thanks to all of you who are sharing their photgraphy expertise and to those inspiring me on these forums by posting their photos.  Here's some of my old school photos.

Hi All!

name is Brandon and have been diving since roughly 2009. Recently began to be a bit more serious about underwater photography, started with a lowely Nex-5 with nauticam housing and no strobes. From there, upgraded to a a6000, and then again to an a64000.  With an upcoming trip to the Red Sea I finally upgraded again to a full frame A7R V with nauticam housing and I must say a bit overwhelmed by the size and functions from what I’ve been used to.

Started adding strobes and fine tuning yet, still an adolescent by most standards, have been lurking for months and finally signed up to take advantage of the professional opinions and advise offered.

Thank you for having me and looking forward to the interactions going forward!

I grew up in the Netherlands but have lived in Canada since 1994. I was an active Wetpixel member around the 2005-2015 period. I have kept diving and taking pictures ever since, just less need to discuss or read about photography kit and techniques. I am getting back on the site because I retired last year and plan to be diving 4-6 months every year, mostly in the East Indies area.

My primary intest is coastal fish biodiversity, behaviour and habitat use. I performed a 3 month PADI Awared Foundation funded fish survey earlier this year in Dauin (Negros Oriental, Philippines) and documented 790 different fish species, including many never before reported from the Philippines and a few that researchers believe to be new to science. You can read more about it on this site https://dauin.biodives.com/

Next trip will take me back to Dauin for 7 weeks, followed by 8 weeks Raja Ampat and probably about 6 weeks Pulau Weh (Sumatra).

Hi from Germany!

After starting diving in the 90's and not much diving in the last decade, I'm about to do a lot of diving again on an exciting one year sailing trip, that will take me from Bonaire in the Carribean all the way to French Polynesia. This time, i will start doing underwater filming. I look forward to your expert advice.
