Good day everyone,

After years of following WetPixel (WP) on Instagram I've taken the plunge and formally joined.

I recently upgraded from a mirrorless 4/3* to a full frame Nikon D850. Wow what a camera! Shooting it in a Nauticam housing with the vacuum system, which I love. For strobes I use the YSD2 J's from Sea & Sea and the Z240's from Inon. Our last trip I added two Nauticam 70x300mm carbon fiber float arms. I thought I had my rig neutrally buoyant before, but I was wrong. Being able to have the camera float at depth for 10-15 seconds before slowly sinking was a joy to behold. At times I found myself playing with my rig if I couldn't find a compelling shot or was completing the safety stop.

I've been diving since late 2006 and took up UW Photography in early 2014, so still learning a lot. I like to say I'm a diver first and a photographer second, which is true most of the time. For the past four years my wife and I travel around 100 days a year and 2/3 of that is diving and shooting. In 2011 I made my first trip to the Solomon's and have returned once since then, but have trips planned in 2020 and 2021. 2017 was our first introduction to Indonesia, where we have returned three times since then with more on the books in the next two years. I am almost over diving in the Caribbean, as Indo and the Pacific has a hold on me.

As far as shooting I tend to prefer macro as I can control the foreground and background easier, but I am enjoying the challenge of wide angle. At this point in my craft I'm trying to move away from the animal ID shot and become more artistic. I can easily spend 10-40 minutes on a single subject/setup. We have been attending workshops from Backscatter for techniques and post processing with Erin Quigley and Jim Decker. I've also attended three of their Digital Shootouts.

If anyone is interested I have a hobby website http://brownduckphoto.comthat does not get as much attention as it should.

Best,

Andy

Hi people,

I am an oceanographer and divemaster and I work full time with underwater photos and videos in Tenerife for over a year. I already used several topics in here to help with equipment maintenance and tips, but just recently got to actually make an account for myself. Better later than never?

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm Peter from Munich, Germany.

Diving is one of my favorites and after a longer time making photos I'm starting to make videos only.

At the beginning with my small Canon G15 ,  I switched to Panasonic GH5 and I love the features of this camera.

I started with a Seafrogs housing but now I'm looking for a better one in future to have more options with different lenses.

Greetings

Hello,
I'm Bernie, from Vancouver, Canada.  I'm a PADI Specialty Instructor (qualified for MSDT, but never applied for the cert, no need to Put Another Dollar In yet again).  My main diving areas are in SE Asia, I've given up coldwater diving (recalling the horrors of doing my OW in 3C water, AOW in 5C, and Rescue in 8C), so sold all my coldwater gear.  I've taught in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.  I don't teach diving full-time, though, I'm a prof, so have my "real job" here in Vancouver.
I recently changed photo rigs, to a Nikon D800 with Aquatica housing.
I also have the Paralenz, which takes great video, but it is so wide angle you have to do a lot of editing.  It's a bit of a trick to get used to how you move your head since the only real way to control what you actually capture in Paralenz is to mount it to your mask (it has no viewfinder nor usable screen).  You end up then piecing short clips together to make any useful video.
I also have older GoPros, no real need to upgrade since every time you have to replace most of the accessories (annoying part of their business model), so I have a few of the 3/3+/4 GoPros with all the giz one could ever need, but I rarely use them anymore.  Maybe I should sell them....

Hi!  I’ve been diving about 8 years now and find it just as exhilarating now when I get in the water as I did the first time.  I love photography and have had a blast taking uw photos over the past years.  I just bought a new set up and an eager to spend some time in the water with it.
