evildiesel 0 Posted June 13, 2022 Hi there, just wondering if i'm doing something wrong. I follow the Classified forum and choose immediate email notification but it isn't working anymore. It was working perfectly until about a month ago perhaps. I just went into my settings there and unchecked it, then checked it again and saved but didn't get an email and there has been a new post in that time too. I also checked my spam just in case but no luck. - thanks
Davide DB 413 Posted June 13, 2022 Yes, I can confirm that email notifications stopped working about a month ago
makar0n 56 Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) So to add to this - i was not getting any notifications when receiving a message here for months now, as in absolutely no email, nothing in the spam etc. So for a test, I have changed the email address to another one and voila, all is working again. So the issue could be either with email provider (went from Gmail to ProtonMail, not sure what you guys have) OR there could be an issue with Wetpixel backend, but changing email has somehow fixed it (for me) @adamhanlon@TimG Edited June 13, 2022 by makar0n
TimG 62 Posted June 13, 2022 Hmmm, annoying - but thanks for the heads up. I'll pursue with Adam......

TimG 62 Posted June 13, 2022 Yep, you can select which threads you chose to follow and be notified. On a phone it's the three bar icon at the top right hand; then Managed Followed Content; similar on an iPad/ On a desktop click your icon at the top right hand of the page then it's Manage Followed Content again. Tim, I'm not getting email anymore. I'm not getting PM notifications as well
TimG 62 Posted June 14, 2022 I think Adam PM'd you about this? Could you check your PM folder. He thinks it's an ISP issue - not Wetpixel
adamhanlon 0 Posted June 14, 2022 It would seem that gmail is filtering all automatic traffic from wetpixel.com. Unfortunately, there is little that I can do about this, but individuals can request that traffic for @wetpixel.com is whitelisted in their accounts. To stress, these are all system generated, and the emails are still being sent by the system. The issue is ISPs, not Wetpixel! Interestingly, I'm still getting email notifications...even with my gmail account, so this would suggest that it may affect some types of account rather than all of them. Davide DB 413 Posted June 14, 2022 I don't know the WetPixel configuration but in these cases it usually depends on the server used to send the emails. Only the most expensive plans provide a dedicated server for email but it is usually shared among multiple sites (go figure what they do) and you always end up blacklisted. Davide DB 413 Posted July 12, 2022 After one month still not getting notification from the forum because I have a Google account. Don't you suspect that the problem is you and not Google? Have you asked Google to whitelist traffic from @wetpixel.com? Unfortunately, Google will not permit blanket authorizations and say that they must originate from account owners... Are you willing to pay to have email notifications from Wetpixel? This community thrives thanks to individuals like you selflessly sharing their knowledge and experience. If there is a general desire among the community for a fee to be levied in order to have email notifications, I am happy to investigate this.

I made this from the day one and I still do not receive email. I do this work for a living, but as usual you don't like to be challenged and react in an unhinged way. No problem. adamhanlon 0 Posted July 13, 2022 @Davide DB Let's keep personality out of this discussion. I don't think that my reply was in any way unhinged. Happy to be challenged, but it needs to be constructive, rather than accusatory. As I now know that you work in this environment, can you share some practical ideas about how to overcome this issue? ChrisRoss 150 Posted July 13, 2022 There are probably a few things to try, first one I can think of might be to get a new non-google email account. Many ISPs for example provide an email address with their plan. Then setup that email account to auto forward to a gmail account if you don't want to be checking another account for emails. It would certainly help prove if it is a google problem. Automated emails seem to find a way to go missing it seems. I for example had problems with my Olympus account - forgot the password and the automatic system emails to reset it go missing and they don't appear to go to spam as far as I can tell. Olympus said they were going out so not sure what I can do there.

Adam - so while I would wait for @Davide DB as he seems to have the experience in the very area of running boards (and possibly email servers), meanwhile I am from a different branch of the geeky profession, my input below. So the issue can either lay on Google side, or Wetpixel internals. a) Google - as the emails do not get through at all, at least to some people (as opposed to getting in, but being put in "spam"), this could indicate that they are either not being sent, or, are dropped by Google systems for some reason. If these are not being sent, one would have to have a look at email server logs/config. If these are dropped by Google, that will be tougher, however you should perhaps first check for bounce backs on email server - ie. when email is rejected, sometimes you get a "reply" message with error code/reason. As @Davide DB has said, unlikely you have email server only to yourself, and most likely it is shared by 100-1000s of clients of the web hosting company. So it's enough if one of those clients had malicious dealings, like sending phishing emails/spam, this could have caused the server to be blacklisted. But this would most likely mean no gmail address would receive anything. Question is are there any folks with gmail (sans yourselves as admin) that do receive things?. If not, might be worth raising it with the hosting company so maybe they can raise it with Google, as unlikely Google will even bother to talk to a private person. b) Wetpixel - so based on my experience, I have started receiving the notifications again after I've changed to Proton mail. But it could be that it was not the Proton, but the change that made it work. I.e. say something was "stuck" on the board (could be also email server) side, but the mere act of changing the email address made it work again. Either way, best way would be to find users that use Gmail, with some getting notifications and some not. Then one can start testing i.e. changing to another email provider account, then back to the same gmail (for accounts that did not get anything, to see if change alone triggered anything), similarly change to another gmail account for those that do receive these, then back to the same one, just to see if the behavior would change between different gmail accounts. I would not use your/mods account to test at this stage as you all have different permissions and that might affect the results. If you need a victim for testing then I am happy to volunteer, just need somebody to keep sending me PMs Edited July 14, 2022 by makar0n FFS - Fat Finger Syndrome
jmadler 0 Posted July 19, 2022 Thanks for all of the updates on this, everyone! I have a gmail account and am still not getting email notifications either. I was trying to reset the password to my Wetpixel account and none of the password reset requests emails came through (not even in my spam folder). I ended up just starting up an old laptop that had my Wetpixel password saved in it and am logged in from there but still haven't figured out how to get notifications back on via gmail. I will try what others suggested and link my account to an old school email account to see if that works. Thanks so much, Jenny
adamhanlon 0 Posted July 20, 2022 So, I have just reconfigured the Wetpixel forums email servers. Can a few folks test it please? Ideally with gmail addresses? If you PM me, I'll attempt to reply and let's see what happens next! Thank you
