RIP David Salvatori

Recommended Posts

It is with great regret that I have to inform the Wetpixel community that David Salvatori died in a diving accident off Sicily last weekend. David was a talented underwater photographer, universally liked, admired and respected, who freely and generously shared his knowledge and experience within the Wetpixel community over many years.

He was devoted to the marine world and its inhabitants, and passionate about conserving it. He sought to use his imaging skills to stimulate a desire to engage and protect the planet's wild places.

Our thoughts go out to his wife, Maria Cristina di Palma and to his family and many friends. The world is a darker place today, and our hearts are heavy. God speed and rest in peace David.

Please feel free to share your thoughts. memories and condolences here....

I was honored to be asked by David to write a forward for his book "Scatti Sommersi" that was published earlier this year. The book is an homage to the beauty of the oceans, as interpreted by his skill behind a camera. It is truly devastating, but also uplifting to think that this beautiful book will act as his permanent will and testament.

I feel really sorry. I knew him only from the wetpixel forum, but I really liked his posts and we had some private chat. He was a really nice person. I also very much appreciated his work, since I started diving in the Mediterranean Sea. RIP David.

The super-talented underwater photographer David Salvatori (@dasalvat died in an accident while diving off Sicily last weekend. David was always open to new ideas and shared ideas about techniques and creative ideas with everyone. Many of us in the Wetpixel community benefitted profoundly from his advice, which he gave freely. @Alex_Mustard and @adamhanlon reminisce sadly and fondly about their memories of David and chat about how much we will miss him. God speed David Salvatori.

Thank you for the video and tribute, you really captured what I experienced in meeting David and Christina long ago in Puerto Galera, PH.  I had been casually shooting for about 10 years and was amazed at David's skill in what had been 4 years of shooting for him.  His passion and technical prowess took him to an expert skill level that astounded me.  We had not seen each other in person since but I really enjoyed watching his career and all of their great experiences.  I am deeply saddened at this loss and that I will not be able to feel his charisma, passion, and that smile again but only experience it through the art, friends, and family he left behind.

RIP David
