gharring 0 Posted December 6, 2004 I purchaed aan Olympus C8080WZ a few months back , played with the camera for two months then purchased the Ikelite housing and DS125 Strobe. My first dives with this in Cozumel, with practice I think I may have something. Comments please, advice welcome and wanted! http://www.pbase.com/gharring/olympus
critter 0 Posted December 8, 2004 I like the trigger fish shot and these are nice for first time out with your new rig. I would suggest moving your strobe out a little further to decrese the backscatter on your shots (suspended white particles) or just photoshop them out. You may want to get a little closer on your shots like the anemone and fill the frame up with the image and shoot horizontal versus downward on the shot. They have nice color saturation and please keep posting. Tony
Tonester 0 Posted December 8, 2004 Nice shots. I too have invested in the same setup, but have yet to use it underwater - storm came in on my last trip so no diving. As a first time user how did you find it? what set up did you use? and any tips for a first time user like myself? I was surprised at how big and heavy the setup was, so i'd like to hear how it went. Thanks Tony
Rin 0 Posted December 8, 2004 me is using the ike 8080 housing and DS-50, up to now am very satisfied with it. I shoot with F8 and 1/250 to 1/500 for macro; and F5.6, 1/125 for wide angle. The TTL work well!! Just lovig it!!!
gharring 0 Posted December 11, 2004 I set the camera at 1/100 f 5.6 for most shots. The TTL setting on the flash . Thanks for the comments and yes I agree moving the strobe out and getting closer. Also seen alot of post and examples and must agree shooting from a low angle really improves the shots. As for weight of the unit remember underwater you don't have the weight. I diod decrease my on weight . The camera was real easy to handle and the strobe arm flexed and held the strobe well. On surface you find the strobe arm doesn't want to hold the strobe up, but submerged works great. All camera functions are east to access . Thanks all for the tips I'll keep working at this! h2ohunter 0 Posted December 20, 2004 I just purchased an Olympus C8080, and need to get a housing and strobe. Any recommendations? I've heard a few horror stories on the Olympus C-5060 housing, any feedback on the PT023 Olympus housing for the 8080? I like the fact the Ikelite housing is rated to 200 feet, yet the Olympus is only rated 132 feet.
underexposed 0 Posted December 20, 2004 h2ohunter, I have a 8080 in a ikelite housing and think it works great. It is my second ikelite housing and I think they put out a great product. I'm not sure about port lens quality and things like that but the housing itself is built to last. I love that it is clear. On a dive trip in Canada a couple of years ago one of my control buttons got sand in it. At about 80 feet when I pressed the button it sprayed water into the housing. I was able to continue the dive and take pictures minus the one button and had it taken apart and cleaned before the next dive. My guess is with a diffrent housing the rest of the trip would have been without the camera. Ikelite also has great customer service. If you get the ikelite housing try to get the dome port and wal when you can manage it, they work great as well.
h2ohunter 0 Posted December 21, 2004 Underexposed Thanks for the info, looks like I'll get the Ikelite. What type of system did you get with the ds125 strobe? Is it the manual one?
underexposed 0 Posted December 22, 2004 UnderexposedThanks for the info, looks like I'll get the Ikelite. What type of system did you get with the ds125 strobe? Is it the manual one? When I bought the housing I had them put a dual handle tray on it because I like having the flexability and I knew I would be getting a second strobe. I now have 2 125's with the TTL dual sync cord. I have not gone swimming with the 2 strobes but I like the Ike/Oly TTL setup much more then the slave or manual setup. I think the only way it comes is with the TTL wiring but I'm not sure on the compatability with strobes from other vendors.
