Underwater gear insurance...

Recommended Posts

Can anyone suggest a reasonable/reliable insurance company/policy that you use to cover your underwater/camera gear from flooding? Preferably something that is specifically for that and that alone (not bundled insurance policies).  I can find great prices for production gear coverage that does NOT cover water damage, so I was hoping I could find a company that specialized in dive/flood insurance for camera gear.

Assuming that your location refers to Destin, Florida, you can look at H2O Insurance - they partner with DAN to offer coverage on diving equipment, including camera floods - https://dan.org/membership-insurance/equipment-insurance/

I haven't used them myself, not being American, but DAN in general has a very good reputation.

The premium is not cheap and overall keep in mind that insurers reimburse the depreciated value of the asset you want to insure. The older the gear, the less valuable it becomes

depending on where you live, you may contact your local insurance broker, they may be able to find a specialist for you as well

It depends on your location...

I am from Austria (they are from Germany, I do not know for which countries they will make contracts) and have "Fotofairsicherung-Flex": https://www.fotofairsicherung.at/kameraversicherung/unsere-tarife/

I pay a yearly fee of 250 Euro and, without having to list individual components of my equipment, have insurance for a damage up to 6500 Euro UW and 1500 Euro on land with 125 Euro detuctible (including laptop and robbery from a car).

Once I had damage on a focuslight and a strobe by brute force of a crew member of a safariboat and they covered it without problems. I can highly recommend them...

Wow, that's great - much better than divemasterinsurance that I shared above

The thing to remember is that usually you have to buy insurance in your home country.  Europe may be different with the EU, I don't know, but there's usually a clause that restricts selling to different countries.  As a consequence the deals you can get are often quite different.

DAN are amazing at least with the medical stuff.

I would assume the same for equipment insurance - but you can check with them via email they are very responsive.

Thanks,

Matan.

Assuming you are in the US, State Farm Insurance will cover your gear at a reasonable price.  It is a separate coverage, not tied to home or car.  I have had their coverage for many years.  I used it once for lens damage and got the situation resolved with them quickly and easily.

I have been trying to find one for a resident of India. Just impossible.

If someone knows any insurance provider, do please let me know.
