WTB Zoom ring Nikon 18-55 for Subal housing

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got a zoom ring for a Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, probably a type 2 for a Subal D500 housing? I brought one from Subal but it was for a type 1, tried altering it and managed to destroy it in the process . Cannot really afford another new one at present. Also anyone got a 33/4 extension for the Subal? Got one on order from another supplier but no sign of it arriving. Thanks

Hey Mags

That's a bummer.

Are you sure it's a type 2 you want? Most of the rings are either Type 3 or the newer Type 4 which have 88 teeth - and would go with an EXR33/4.

Whats the ID diameter exactly of the zoom gear you want and how many teeth or on it?Type 4 is 88 teeth type 3 is like 77?if I recall

all my subal housing are type 4-I have a lot of gears unlabeled so thats why I'm asking those details

I have found making these gears is pretrty easy if you have a friend with a cad program

I will look thru my pile if you give me the details

OK, if you have a Type 4 housing then you need the 88 teeth (toothed?) version of the zoom ring.  After that its the diameter of the zoom ring on the lens and the distance from the lens mount to the zoom ring.

I'll have a check and get back to you with the measurements, pretty certain its a type 4 housing. Thanks

Hi - It is Type 4 88 teeth. The lens can zoom either on the zoom ring or where the AV/M and VR button is located. The zoom mechanism in the housing locates where these sliders are. Attached a few photos with measurements. Let me know if you need anything else

Shame, but thanks for looking. Thanks for looking, I'm wondering if it'll be cheaper to use a different lens zoom that I can get a zoom rings for! Or just decide before the dive what focal length I'll use.

Mags, I just bought a Nikkor 10-24 for my D500 second hand from London Camera Exchange. They had a couple of them for sale at a good price. I picked it up at the weekend. It looks in excellent condition with box and all the bits and bobs.

As I have posted elsewhere, I have a zoom ring for the Nikkor 8-15 and that works perfectly on the 10-24.
