ReeferBen 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I need a travel case for my camera (digital rebel), ikelite housing, port, lens, and a single DS-50 with ikelite arms. I was looking at pelican cases but don't know what size to get. What size do all of you use? IS there a better/cheaper type that do the same thing? TIA
mrmishkin 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I'm a big fan of pelican cases. I've had my camera gear literally float down rapids and been thrown around, without any ill effects. However if you are staying pretty civilized, you could go with a padded camera case from Lowe Pro or another. As for sizes that is pretty much up to you. Pelicans come in many sizes. I think the 1510 carry on would probably be a good choice for your gear. Just keep the dimensions in mind and remember to add a few inches for foam or dividers. Hope that helps! james 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I would also recommend you look at the Storm Cases as well. They are identical to the Pelicans, but weigh less and cost less. I have a storm 2750. Cheers James
Tonester 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I just bought the Pelican 1510 with "pick n Pluck foam" from the site below: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...earch&Q=&ci=194 They were quick with delivery and seemed to be well priced. The case is great, and is supposed to be the maximum size you can take on an airplane as hand luggage, which was important for me. I have the Ikelite housing for the Oly C-8080, DS-125 strobe and Arm. Everything will fit but not much room for anything else.
Detonate 0 Posted December 16, 2004 I have a storm case as well, and echo James's comments. They are much better designed than a pelican and also have a Carry on model. I believe it is the iM2500. I have one, and love it!
SeaDogDiver 0 Posted December 16, 2004 http://www.stormcase.com/ They have a great PDF catalog on their website
scottyb 0 Posted December 17, 2004 Be sure to pack as much of the delicate stuff as you can in your carry-on. I use the 1610 and still carry-on camera body, lenses, and strobes in a Lowepro roller case. The housing, ports, batteries, chargers, and other accessories, tend to fill the Pelican pretty well. donjaussi 0 Posted December 23, 2004 I have a storm M2600, and it just fits my ike housing, single port and strobe. I'll post a pic of the internal configuration. I do have to take the bottom plastic wing nuts off the housing though. to get it to fit. I have flown with it checked in, and it appears to be a very sturdy case. sugar 0 Posted December 23, 2004 I have a 1510 that has never been used- although the pick and pluck i used to map out all my stuff- which would not fit! I'll give it to you-but you would have to buy more pick n pluck to line it. I ended up with a Timberland rolling back pack that fits carry-on requirements to pack my Sea and Sea 10d housing with all the ports and focus gears. This bag has a smaller backpack that attathes to the larger one and that is what my 10d and lenses and extra batteries go in. It's really two bags for one! That leaves me another carry-on for the laptop! if you are interested in the 1510- send me a PM and I'll ship to you! It will help me clear out the closet! donjaussi 0 Posted December 24, 2004 I have a storm M2600, and it just fits my ike housing, single port and strobe. I'll post a pic of the internal configuration. I do have to take the bottom plastic wing nuts off the housing though. to get it to fit. The storm M2600 is 14" X 20" X 7.7" deep (internal measurments). If you are not concerned about size, I would recommend the M2700 as it is 8" deep. As you can see from the photo, the housing barely fits in. The top and bottom of the strobe arms are basically hard against the case. Also, you might get a second strobe in there, but not much more. Warren_L 0 Posted July 22, 2005 I know this is an old thread, but was just wondering what people are using (or if there is anything that will accomodate) for traveling with a D70/Ike housing, and dual DS125s? I am headed to the Bahamas for a liveaboard at the end of next month and was hoping to figure out the best way to travel with this setup.
thatporchdawg 0 Posted July 22, 2005 I've got a Pelican 1550 with padded dividers. Its a little bigger than official carry on size, but I haven't been hassled about using it as carry on yet, though I have had to gate check it a couple times when the planes were so small that all carry ons were checked. So in the 1550, I can put the Aquatica housing for a Canon 20D, macro port, dome port, zoom gear, handles, two sets of Sea & Sea arms, two Sea & Sea YS-90 strobes, synch chords, Canon point and shoot housing and tray. This makes this case very heavy. Hope this helps!
TimG 62 Posted July 23, 2005 Hi! I've just flown around the world with my Subal D10 set-up with twin Inon strobes all packed in a Pelican 1510. This has the advantage of being a roller box and within the airlines cabin bag size limits. I had no problems getting into the cabin for the 19 flights I took. I would heartily recommend the padded divider sets rather than pluck-foam. Its more durable and adaptable. Hope this helps Tim
diveh2o 0 Posted January 1, 2006 It would be really helpful to see pictures of these configurations...
Rocha 0 Posted January 1, 2006 If you do decide to get a Pelican case, make sure you also get a duffel bag to the Pelican inside! Wonder why? Check here: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8141 Luiz
TimG 62 Posted January 1, 2006 Here's a wheely Pelican 1510 (which is airline cabin size approved) with a housing, marco port, two strobes and the usual bits and pieces.
