Inons tragedy; need advice, please

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Well, it finally happened.  My trusty ancient 220 is kaput.  The little sensor unit where you attach the fibre optic cable somehow flooded last week while I was in Bali.  I'm guessing that it can't be fixed.

It wouldn't be quite so tragic had my 240 not suffered a battery compartment flood the week before I left for Bali as I was checking all my gear was ready to roll. So now I am strobeless and on the hunt for replacements.

I haven't purchased strobes in years (a decade even, maybe?!) and am looking for recommendations.  I have adored my Inons and wish I could just grab some more, but figure that's going to be a long shot even to find some 2nd hand.  So, what do you all recommend?  I am using fibre optic cables for both my Big Girl Camera (Canon 7dmkII/Nauticam) and the Baby Rig (Oly TG5).  I have only used manual until recently when I've been trying ttl with the Baby Rig (great with the 240; went back to manual with the 220).  Really appreciate the help & advice!

A pair of Z-240s were just posted in classifieds -

Alternatively, if you want to buy new, look at Retra.

Inon strobes are one of the most common classified item.

Good luck!

P.S.

Is strobeless a condition for the human soul?

Hi Alcina,

In another tread I was recommended: https://www.uwcamerastore.com/inon-z-330-type-2-underwater-strobe:

They still have Z-330 in stock (I ordered one and it is on the way and should arrive today, according to the parcel service). For the small Inon strobe there is a new replacement that should be available already tight now or very soon...

I agree with the guys, if you are determined to stay with the Inons (and why not?) keep checking the Classifieds. Both Z240s and Z330s are cropping up quite often. You should be able to get one or two.

Having said that, I switched to Retras about 2.5 years ago. Love them!!!

Sorry about your old Inons.  I replaced my old Z240's with two Inon Z330's and am most pleased with them, easy to use, nice even light, good photos.

Thank you all for your help!  I'm hoping to get the 2 240s listed here :)   but I will also be checking out new strobes for the future, so appreciate the suggestions!
