Tripod on hand luggage?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning a trip in Europe and I'm wondering if I will have any problem travelling on airplanes with hand luggage only to carry my carbon Manfrotto tripod?

Anyone tried, any feedback?

Best regards!

I would suggest checking with the airline(s) you intend to fly with... some of them are pretty tight on letting you have one bag only, and then charging you a lot for another piece.  If you can fix it to your bag, you might be less at risk of being charged, but you will be at the mercy of the airline staff. Especially if the dimensions are bigger than what is specified under the type of ticket you have.

Well... there has been news of people hand carrying or in the carry on luggage... not allowed a selfie stick.

Check with the airlines... and to tell you the truth... even a phone call confirmation may not be an enough indication of approval.

Best if you can check it in.

I've traveled with a Manfroto BeFree carbon tripod in Europe and beyond and have never had a problem. They are quite small. But, as hellhole implies, so much is down to the individual check-in clerk. Maybe a slightly discreet concealment! I've never heard of them being stopped by security.

Hello,

I also own a Manfortto Befree Advanced with 494 Center Ball Head. My fear is airports security.

Maybe I just need a mini tripod like JOBY GORILLAPOD 3K and should buy it, but anyone knows if I can use a JOBY GORILLAPOD 3k with my Manfrotto ballhead, are they compatible?

Thank you so much for help!
