mauro 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Hi, I'm interested in WP-DC300 underwater case for my PowerShot S50 but I'd like some information. In forums I read that the case doesn't permit to turn on/off the camera while in the case, is this correct? Can the case be used with external strobes or with additional lens (fish eye or macro lens)? If yes, what do you suggest? Is it safe to dive deeper than 30 mt (100 ft)? True Can the case be used with external strobes or with additional lens (fish eye or macro lens)? If yes, what do you suggest? Yes, you need to buy also appropriate adapter, I used the Inon 105 AD wide angle lens. Is it safe to dive deeper than 30 mt (100 ft)? I dove with it to 35-36 m without and damage but its more then the manufacture instructions
GHaze 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Load the camera while it is on and the cover is open. It will power down in a minute or so; this is adjustable in the camera menu. The touch any button while diving to reactivate the camera.
vlad 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Hello, I have the same setup. Here are your answers: 1) Can you power off the camera while in the UW case? YES you can. Of course you need to put the camera in the housing turned on and then if you press the WB/FUNC button for more than a few seconds the camera will turn off. 2) Can you take the case to more than 100ft. YES. But ... of course you rick it. Grease good the Oring and be carefull. I took it down to max 130 ft. It is a great camera but you will need a strobe. You are right of course, I didn't know it since in the S30 it was impossible and after I flooded it and switched to the S50 I didn't read the manual :? mauro 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Thank you all for your replay. I think I'm going to by the case in the next few days. I have one other question: do you suggest to put desiccant packet inside the camera? I usually dive in Mediterranian sea and the water temerature below 20 meters is 15 °C all year long. Because I think the camera becames hot after a while, I'd like to avoid fog on lens. Ciao Mauro
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted January 25, 2005 I have one other question: do you suggest to put desiccant packet inside the camera? Yes, I always used the 2-3 silica bags inside the housing. The camera is quit hot near the area of the battery and that cause the fog, try also to close the housing in a place dry as possible.
